Cleaning out

Saturday, August 25, 2012

RB has been taking apart and reconstructing our entertainment unit in order to fit a bigger flat screen TV. He is doing an awesome job but it has made us realize how much "stuff" we have that we don't need.

I am an avid reader and have been collecting books for most of my life. I'm going through those and deciding which ones can go and which I cannot live without. He keeps trying to talk me into an electronic book but I'm just not there - maybe some day.

As for all the little "dust collectors" - 95% of those can go. For the last 5 years we have begged our children to not buy those kinds of things. We would rather have time together than something else to take care of and I think they are finally listening!

I can't give up on real books either. My son gave me his old kindle to try. I read a couple but it is now in a drawer. I like having a book in my hand. I also want to own it. My hubby always teases me that I don't know what a library is for

Ah, books. The bane of an uncluttered house. At least mine. I am also an avid reader/collector and refuse to go to an ebook format. I love the smell and the feel and the weight of an actual book; it is part of the whole reading experience. But that means many, many boxes of books and several books shelves. Seriously. Four in the dining room alone. The DINING ROOM. Who has bookshelves in the dining room? And all those shelves are simply too tempting. They have a tendency to accumulate knick knacks and the debris of an "Aw. I can't get rid of that." life.

Glad you're having success with decluttering. Perhaps I should work on some of my own...

I don't have anything special planned for this weekend. Today we are re-doing the bathroom floor which requires taking the old one off, taking the commode out, etc. I did manage to get in a 15 minute walk this morning. Glad you are getting to clean out stuff, something I need to do. I'm not the packrat around here tho so it's hard to convience someone else to clean out. Enjoy your time with the kids. Take care and have a good afternoon.

Glad the kids are finally listening. I admire your cleaning out. Hope to do that sometime in the not too distant future myself. Pat yourself on the back. Take care.
