It was a coffee miracle!

Saturday, August 25, 2012

Got up at 6 am today, slept a whole hour later because its Saturday. Went to bed at 10 PM, well more like crashed. I spent 6 hours yesterday doing taxes for my SIL who last filed in 2005. They caught up with her and threatened to garnish her pay, told her she owed like 20k. She freaked out of course.

So I had to do 2006 to 2011, long hand. No tax accounting software because I stopped buying it every year and do online, its free or maybe $10 depending on what your filing. Its a good thing I used to do taxes on paper years ago or she would have had to pay someone to do it. It was only the 1040-EZ form but I had to do all the math and they added the Work credit, changed the standard deductions a couple times, it was very tiring for my poor brain and I triple checked my math because my stroke brain does not like numbers.
She's going to be hammered on late fees and penalties but I got her debt down to 8k to start at least. Quite the disaster.

So my coffee miracle: Yesterday I was really busy, and on top of the taxes, life insurance paperwork came in the mail that took another hour to fill out, then DH came home early, about 4 pm, picked me up and we went to see our Tahoe to pay the bodywork guy who painted the passenger door that got crushed by the motor cycle and he painted the new hood we got because DH didn't like the old one. We will pick up the truck today we left it because JR had to do the ball joints still.

So I really didn't notice we had no coffee left, and this morning at 6 am when I went to make the coffee, I felt the crushing panic as I saw there was in fact NO COFFEE!!

DH panicked as well, frantically looking in the pantry as if I couldn't see it if it was there.
I was trying to decide If I wanted to go to the 24 hour Walmart, or hit MacDonald s or Racetrack for coffee, when DH said "Hold on! There is a brick of Folgers in the back of the van, I saw it the other day when I was emptying stuff out!!"
Sure enough there it was! It must have fallen out during a shopping trip at some point. THANK YOU GOD!!

At times like these, when something nice happens, I start singing the song from Sunday school, the "Jesus loves me this I know" song. I like to thank God for the little things too. Finding coffee might seem trivial for some, but for me its a happy happy thing!

So down to 192 this morning. not bad, I was 197 when I got back a couple weeks ago, been supper vigilant, trying to get back rto the 184 I was at before Clearwater. One step forward, two steps back!!

I'd like to think there aren't many things I would panic over like this, but I totally identify with being out of coffee!! Great story -- and you're a saint for doing your SIL's taxes for that many years. Good luck to her.
