Running Goal for the Fall? 5K in Sub-30 Minutes!

Friday, August 24, 2012

Worked out at the gym today and thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the last 30 minutes when I walked and ran five intervals of one minute at a 9:40 pace (6.2 mph). The plan for the next 10 weeks or so, as far as running goes, is to complete a 5K in less than 30 minutes.

So I'm using the CP25K program again to make this happen. But since I've just returned to jogging/running after a couple of months away from it (due to cycling season), I'm starting with two weeks of "Pre-CP25K" in which I (1) walk for 5 minutes, (2) complete five one-minute intervals @ 6.2 mph with four minutes of recovery in between. This is a breeze for me, but I've learned that it's good to give my body notice that we're going to run again, so I'm taking it slow!

Anyhoo, thanks for reading, hope you have a great evening!

Awesome goal, good luck to you! I'm running my 1st 5K tomorrow, so we'll see how running compares to cycling!

That's great and I'm sure you will hit it in 30 minutes. I'm still a slow runner and still working on the speed. Apart of me is afraid of injuring my knee, at 250+ pounds. But, I'm determined to go the distance. Keep up the great work with all you have accomplished.
