Lowering the Threshold

Friday, August 24, 2012

If I am going to lower my sugar threshold, I will need to stop eating the following foods for a few weeks (deep breath):
graham crackers, waffles, chocolate chips, pudding, flavored yogurt, sweetened shredded coconut, hard candy, soy nut butter, jelly, jam, flavored water, and maple syrup. Aside from the sugary things I keep in my pantry, desserts are off limits, too. emoticon

Here are my calorie counts for the week (2,000 cal./day):
Sat., Aug. 18 1,769
Sun., Aug. 19 1,833
Mon., Aug. 20 1,665
Tues., Aug. 21 1,896
Wed., Aug. 22 2,037 (Staff picnic...only had one cookie. Not bad. : ))
Thurs., Aug. 23 1,882
Fri., Aug. 24 2,011

I'm back to school next week. We'll see if my eating habits suffer as I'm making the transition from stay at home mom to full time teacher. It usually takes my son and I a couple of weeks to acclimate to our new schedules. emoticon

Have a great week, all!

I was tickled to read the list of what you are excluding from your diet. When my kids were younger, most of those were staples in our pantry (for hubby several of those still are - plus most all Little Debbies). I think the trick is that, when you eliminate these sugary foods, you find a tasty, healthier alternative that you enjoy. Don't just "go without" or you'll feel deprived and fall off the wagon. Been there, done that!

I cut way back on grains (rice, bread, pasta) except for minimal barley, amaranth, and quinoa. 27 pounds rolled right off. I eat a couple of pieces of Lindt extra dark 90% cocoa chocolate most evenings, but aside from that I don't seem to require sweets as I used to. Perhaps the grains have something to do with it.

I know that when I start on the sweets, candy, baked goods, that's when I can't get off that crazy train. I've really quit all that recently, and instead I make sure I have lots of frest fruit in the house. It's helped a lot transferring from processed sugar to natural sugar. Good luck in your transformation! You CAN do it!
