Why Doing One's Homework is SOOOOO Important

Friday, August 24, 2012

Twice a week, I volunteer in a medical clinic that opens at 630AM. On the weeks that I'm at my parents' (such as this one), I've developed the habit of using the drive-thru window at Dunkin Donuts for breakfast en route to clinic.

Today, I decided to look up the nutritional value of that "reduced fat blueberry muffin" I've been eating with my black decaf coffee. Oh my goodness!

From their website:
Reduced Fat Blueberry Muffin - 25% Less Fat than our regular Blueberry Muffin

Calories: 410 Total Fat: 10 Sat Fat: 2 Cholesterol: 55 Sodium: 620 Total Carb: 75 Fiber: 2 Sugar: 40 Protein: 7

Unfortunately, I ate it 9 hrs before I looked it up. :(

Revised plan: I will wait to have breakfast AFTER clinic in the future. I know I won't die of starvation!

Live and learn.

I like something a little sweet with my coffee in the mornings so I understand. When we are traveling we eat at Cracker Barrel and their healthy breakfast has a huge muffin with it. Your blog makes me wish I had checked it out. lol emoticon

Live and learn and don't worry about the past just remember that it in the future. That is how we learn about getting healthy, so don't beat yourself up about it. Now that you know that is is loaded with junk then you can find something that is healthy and eat that. emoticon emoticon

What a bummer! I really dislike the way they market things as "healthy" when they aren't. Of course, I guess compared to a regular blueberry muffin it is healthier. Maybe eat 1/2 a muffin and save the rest for the next day? At least now you know emoticon

It is very frustrating to think you've made a "healthier" choice only to find that it wasn't as remotely healthy as you thought it was...My husband was trying to tell me that getting the muffin was better than a doughnut. I guess maybe it is on some levels...

I do love Dunkin but have to control myself. It's an egg white wrap for me (I like the veggie one) and on a Sunday I can have a Boston Creme Doughnut if I want. Sunday is my free day but only if we end up at Dunkin, I don't seek it out.

How long is clinic? I know I won't starve but I am a much happier person if I have food in my stomach. Is there something else that maybe you could eat?
