Thursday's Shower of Blessings

Yesterday, as I awaited the evening temperatures to cool enough for my walk, I noticed threatening clouds moving in and decided to take a drive up to Murrells Inlet for a mall walk in dry, air-conditioned comfort. It is a small mall, but the only one within reasonable driving distance. Each round is only 5/8 of a mile. For someone in really bad shape, who has to work up very gradually, the small size and short rounds are a big advantage.

I find I am starting to keep track of my rounds by giving them names. Round 1 and 2 are "Warmup" and "Warmerup." Round 3 (1-7/8 mi.) is "Minimum" because I can add the jaunt to and from the car to make it 2 miles. Round 4 (2.5 mi.) is "Beginner" because that is what I was able to do the first time I tried walking here. Round 5 (3-1/8 mi.) is "the Usual," well, because it is. Round 6 (3.75 mi.) is "Reaching" because it means I am now persevering in spite of rather painful feet and ankles. Round 7 (4-3/8 mi.) I call "Crazy" since I am really feeling it even though it is done only on my very best days. Round 8 (5 mi.) is called "Super" but I've only managed it 3x now. I am thinking of renaming it "Now-G0-Home-And-Soak-Your-Fee
t," but Super is shorter. Okay admit it, isn't keeping your brain entertained and distracted the hardest thing about maintaining a walking program?

Accountability:
Eating program-- excellent; Walking Program--okay so far this week, only chickened out once, on Wednesday; Strength Training--still pitiful, just a 15-min. light weight upper body workout on Wednesday.

Good things:
-My lawn is loving all this rain and is actually turning green.
-Made it back from the mall safely, through flooded roads and a blinding deluge--just put on my blinkers to let all the other drivers know that this is an old lady and she intends to drive slowly.
-My new walking shoes seem to be working out well, and I did 4.2 miles without heel blisters.
-I accidentally dropped a Folgers coffee bag instead of a green tea bag into my cup of hot water at lunch, so I had an excuse to go ahead and have a second cup of coffee! Yum! I don't think the extra 20 calories worth of creamer will set me back too much; I always could dance around the room for 2.5 minutes and disappear them.
-In spite of the extra walking this week, I still weighed 200# this morning, but at least it wasn't a gain. I nudged the scale all around the bathroom floor looking for a spot that would weigh me at 199# but no such luck. However, it did show that I have a pretty stable scale so when it does say 199, it will mean 199!
-Treated myself to a warm, soothing , melon-scented bubblebath instead of a quickie shower.
-My knees have not joined my feet and ankles in their protest against my walking program, and considering how much weight they've been supporting, that is miraculous. Those Dr. Scholl's inserts have been keeping my plantar fasciitis at bay, too.

After last Sunday's sermon, I have been more diligent about thanking the Lord for my many blessings, including making it home alive through that cloudburst. I must remember to thank Him for my bed because if I ever wake up one morning with everything gone except what I remembered to thank God for yesterday (not that He's ever actually done that to me) I don't want to wake up on the floor.

Well, now I am thanking the Lord for my beloved SparkPeople and am going to thank Him in advance for answering my prayers to bless all your efforts with abundant successes.     5-min. light weight upper body workout on Wednesday. is a workout my only suggestuion is next you do strength do something for the core and the time afyter that do something for the leg . you doing good girl emoticon emoticon
