Are Bicycles Really THAT Different??

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

After what I just did, my answer to that question would be YES!! Why you ask? Well AS much as I was looking forward to getting back to normal today, I was thrown off a bit due to having 1 of the munchkins at 6:15 this morning(usually it's not until later, much later)!! So I skipped my morning workout. With the getting up early, making sure the kids ate breakfast before they left, & the little one getting dropped off I was ready to sit & relax by the time the kids left & I got the breakfast mess cleaned up. The little one got picked up at 11:00 and will be back in a few hours. I didn't want to spend a whole hour dancing(I am hoping for a nap before she comes back).Soo I decided on a bike ride. Plus it's good cardio. Well.... I usually ride the bike that my hubby has today, so I decided to take my daughters. So what a bike's a bike right?Hmmm. I don't know about that. It wasn't too long into my journey that I realized the gears were wrong for what I am used to and I think the tires may have needed a bit of air. I tried & tried & tried to get those gears right. It never happened. i kept going & got in 20 minutes somehow. 30 minutes later the bright red color on my face was starting to fade back to normal, and almost an hour later my legs still feel like jello. So even though I only got in 20 minutes it felt like 60 & my heart was pounding so hard it felt like it may bust through my chest. Lol. Needless to say tonight after everybody comes home. All the bicycles will be getting tune ups. Air, oil, and gears checked out. emoticon

Now I am exhausted so I am going to try to squeeze in a refreshing nap before munchkin comes back & my kids get home from school. Have a great day spark friends.

We bought bikes this spring. We decided we didn't want to do much fixing so bought the NO speed regular bikes. Once we started using them it became clear the hill by our house is bigger than I remember while walking it. It's times like this that make me wish I had gotten a 3 speed.
I can go the other direction from our house if I don't mind the neighbors dog taking a piece out of my leg.
Good for you for thinking tuning the bikes instead of just not biking anymore.
Keep up the good work.

I haven't ridden a bike since I was 13-14 years old and I want to again but I live in the inner city on a busy street and I'm terrified to try and see if I can still ride out there in front of everyone. I know that is silly but I'm a little scared for my safety too, I'm A LOT bigger than I was at 14 lol. Not to mention that I don't have my own bike. I will get the courage to try sometime because I feel I am needing something new.
Good job for sticking to it for 20 minutes even though you were having a hard time. That is awesome! Keep workin' it girl!

emoticon on sticking with it for 20 minutes. The only bike riding I do is on the recumbent ones at the gym and even though they are the same model they all feel slightly different and the same guy works on them regularly and test them regularly so it isn't that gee that one is never checked and this one is checked frequently. Hope you got a good nap!

Having the bike in good condition is a must have. I have gone on multiple bike trips with my friend and she had it happen to her twice now that her tires went flat. She was wondering why she was having such a tough time on the trails.

Way to go for getting out there! Even without the perfect bike!
