Bits of summer (woo hoo!) to carry into fall. . .

Almost the semester. . . I'm at work on and off this week; first day of classes is next Monday. My little caboose (well, he's 21) comes home for a week between his summer job cleaning dorm rooms (poetic justice!) and his semester start. When the semester begins, of course the garden harvest needs serious attention! Our apples and concord grapes are ripe. Sauce? Pie? Jelly? Juice? Wine? I love good apples. We also have rutabagas. . . but most of our other crops are a bust due to rodents and bad rainfall. Oh well there are always farm stands!
DH and I are hoping to get another big bike ride in before the semester begins. We have a 34 mile leg (round trip) to do to finish the upper section of the Pine Creek Rail Trail (Rattlesnake Rock to Darling Run, near Wellsboro). We are planning for Saturday. It takes about an hour+ to drive to our starting point, so it's a commitment. One of the most beautiful places ever, though, I think. Canyon walls, a river-carved gorge, lush greenery. Rattlesnakes, apparently. If you are near north central PA, you should try it! There's also canoeing and kayaking when the water level permits.
So I am loving biking and loving this new life of fitness. I think I will have much more energy with my classes this semester. I'll probably take an advanced French class in addition to teaching my Spanish overload. . .yeah, we'll see. Sparking and taking care of yourself takes time! One of my colleagues and I have decided to go to the college gym together once a week--yay! I am intimidated by gyms, as they are full of students who look like they know what they are doing, and I certainly don't. But if I have a friend to go with me--big yay!
Sparkies, I would just like to say keep up all the great work! This is a new life and it is wonderful. We will not go back. I'm reading about maintenance and realizing that is going to be a challenge (not quite there yet but preparing for it). But we can do this, with God's help. Love and hugs to all of you.
