Foods for weight loss

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

I saw this on yahoo this morning and wanted to share it with ya'll. :)

Foods for weight loss

For years scientists have searched for a magical ingredient that would help people shed fat. In 2008, Dr. Shalamar Sibley of the University of Minnesota put 38 obese people on an 11-week diet where they consumed 750 calories less than their estimated daily need. Study participants whose blood levels of D were higher at the study's start lost more weight than participants whose blood levels of D were lower. They actually lost a lot more--70 percent more, to be exact.

Based on the results of this study, by fueling your body with the D-rich nutrients it needs to stay out of a fat-storage state and in a fat-burning state, you can speed weight loss by 70 percent! Thousands of studies on vitamin D have been completed over a span of 40 years, and it's become clear that vitamin D is pretty incredible and effective. Still, it's not the only player on this fat-melting team. Turn up your metabolism and melt body fat adding vitamin D and these five fat-melters from The Vitamin D Diet.

Hmm, interesting. I take whatever vitamin D is in my multi, but don't take additional. something to consider. Thanks for posting!

I sporadically take calcium with vit D and magnesium in the summer. I try to be more consistent with it in the winter, because most Canadians are low in Vit D because of the weak sunshine at that time of year here (our bodies can make vitamin D as long as we spend some time in the sun, but we can't do that if there isn't any, lol). And yes, I also know Vit D is very important for our bones and that there is a blood test that can check your levels. I didn't know it was important for weight loss. Thanks for the link.

It's true. Vitamin D is mega important. I had my vitamin D levels checked about 4 years ago, and my levels were EXTREMELY low. My doctor realized that it accounted for a lot of my aches and pains (aside from obesity) as well as feeling blue. When I started taking super high doses of a prescription vitamin D for 6 weeks, a lot of that improved. Now I take a multi and calcium with vitamin D.

Interesting. I take calcium but not vitamin D, I'll have to see if I'm getting enough with my daily multi..

Thanks for sharing!

How very interesting! I know how important vitamin D is for bone health, it is interesting to read how critical it is for weight loss, too. Clearly, a very essential nutrient!

Thanks for sharing...... and I have heard it too... but what I have read and heard is about diary products.... fat free or reduced fat of course and this might be because most are high in vitamin d.

I just read that article, too. For some reason I still get obsessed with reading everything that contains the word weight loss or diet in the title and then most of the times I already knew most things, but that was the first time I read about adding vitamin d to your diet.

I've taken Vitamin D and watched my calcium levels for years and tbh I think the effect is negligible. But Vit D is a pretty good supplement if you had to choose one to take. Interesting article :)
