Yesterday morning, I headed to the half marathon site early. I wanted to sit and enjoy the beautiful sunrise in the calm, quiet of the morning. I sat listening to my mp3 player and my chill music and watched the sun come up over San Diego.
And then, I turned on my cell phone and noticed voicemails from the night before. This is what I then posted to Facebook:
"Note to self: Do not check late night voice mail before a race. It's never good news. Please send prayers and good thoughts to my Mom, who had an emergency appendectomy last night and is now in ICU with lung problems. (This is going to be a very, very long run for me.)"
And I was right about one thing. The run was long. It was tough physically and overwhelming emotionally. I'll write up my race report tomorrow, but for now, I'll just share that my Mom is doing much better. She's still in ICU but at least she's stable.
Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated as she fights her way through this.
