The running program I joined is going great. Last Tuesday evening, for the first time, I ran 1.5 miles without stopping. I was euphoric! Before then I needed 2 or 3 short breaks of about 30 seconds to take a few deep breaths, despite my efforts to run without stopping. Then, at the next training just last Saturday, I broke my own personal record and ran 2 full miles without stopping! It's amazing to see the results of the training in a relatively short amount of time. It feels really great! Of course I know the cooler weather is helping -- a lot! Still, I'm pretty optimistic that I'll be able to run all or most of my next 5K on September 1st.
I haven't noticed a big change in my weight yet, but I'm continuing to watch what I eat and I feel like weight loss will happen. I recently took measurements so I can track my progress that way, as well. I also notice that in addition to being a great stress reliever, running helps me sleep better at night and I am feeling so strong. I'm still amazed that deciding to join the running program has produced so many benefits for me in only about 12 weeks. I'm so paranoid I'll get hurt and have to quit, but I'm following the advice of the coaches and not trying to do too much at once and I'm honoring my rest days, despite the temptation to lace up my shoes and head out the door! Slow and steady will win the race and more milestones await.
