Overall it was a great weekend!
Friday I planned ahead enough to get a brief walk in during lunch so we could go out to dinner, which was a nice treat. No, I'm not a dog, I know this, but dinner and eating is a social event and it's ok if we "treat" ourselves to a nice evening out. That's always made me nuts, but I digressing....

The past week I did not sleep well. I don't know exactly why, but for whatever reason Wednesday night I can recall checking the clock around 1:00 am and groaning, knowing I had to get up at 4:15 am. Thursday was a bit better, but not much. Friday night, it all caught up with me, and I slept in on Saturday until 7 am! That's unheard of really.

So, sleeping in was good. Getting a later start on our walk wasn't quite as good, but it wasn't the end of the world. We finally made it out of the house and hit the trail around 9:30 or so. Bill had suggested we got the opposite direction of how we usually take off around the waterfront, and it paid off nicely.

Rather than turning around at the Spaghetti Factory at the "end of the trail" we continued on to see what was past that point. Turns out, there's a whole other trail to be had! WooHoo! We traversed the Greenway trail, and it was lovely. It went all the way to the Sellwood Bridge, which we crossed. As it happens, the Galloway gang was running toward us, on this very same bridge.

Now, to know me is to know that for whatever reason, I never think anyone is going to recognize/remember me. That's a psychological insight to delve into at a later date. As it happens, the whole troupe recognized me and were friendly in their Hellos. That was nice, considering I haven't seen any of them since early July.

We finished off the walk down Springwater trail, around the waterfront over the Steel Bridge, and ended up back at my office. A very nice 10 mile walk that took around 3 1/2 hours. We had stopped half way for a snack bar and a water break, so I was pretty much famished. I opted for a yummy Taco Salad and Chili Cheese fries from El Loco Burrito just up the street. As seems is often the case after getting out and moving with a purpose, food had never tasted so good as that salad! Yum!

I then had a quick lay-down with the puppies before getting up and gearing up for time with the kennel kids. Bill asked if I was tired. I stopped and looked at him, considering for a moment, then explained I was, but I couldn't think about being tired at the moment because I had things to do and dogs to walk! He took care of our kids while I took care of the kennel kids, and everyone enjoyed getting out for some fresh air and by then, sunshine.

You'd think I'd sleep really well that night, right? Nope, not really. Go figure.

Sunday, we had a date with the Spark Portland team to head up Lower MacLeay trail to the stone house. Kashmir, Waterfelon and fur-baby Strummer, and Star_Buzz met us there and we took off. Bill was a bit too tired from Saturday's excursion still, so he waited on the lower part of the trail for us. We ladies continued on and had a great hike and chat along the way.

This is me, Waterfelon, Strummer, and Star_Buzz at the stone house.

And Kashmir, Star_Buzz, Strummer and mom Waterfelon, and me!

When we got back to where Bill was waiting, he was engrossed in watching trout in the stream! They were in a deeper pool that trickled off to next to nothing as it crossed under the path. I was glad he had found someone (??) to keep him company until we got back.

Then it was home to get into some less-damp clothes and off to the grocery and there-abouts to pick up supplies. We finally got home and I was able to get laundry started, as well as lounging! I was ready for a rest, and the puppies piled on and we were quite lazy from there on out.

My calories out has been gradually increasing. Of course, Saturday's burn was unusual, but discounting that, I'm still burning more than I have my fitness measures set at. I've bumped them up from 2500 burned a week to 3000, which increased my calorie range. While I did go over on calories in on both Saturday and Sunday, I felt pretty ok about it with such a high calorie output overall. I must be careful though to not get too careless or care-free and start over-eating because "it's ok, I'll burn a lot of calories" and not burning enough. I think that's partly how I ended up "stuck" not long ago at 225, and then gained 20 lbs. I'm back in the 230s again, and that feels pretty good. It seems as if it's been 75% nutrition, and 25% fitness. I'll keep at it though and see how things continue to work out.

Overall, this was a great weekend, and I started to feel a bit more like myself - or rather, like the self I want to be. I've got OHS kennel kids walking on the schedule twice this week. I'll be walking home from work tomorrow (Bill needs to take the Lil Red Milk Truck in to have one of the tires checked, it keeps losing pressure, so he'll take me to work and I'll walk home after). I'll be going with Kashmir and GayeMC to Seaside on Friday to volunteer for our Hood to Coast team on Saturday. I think I'll have enough going on to keep me further busy and out of trouble.

Sounds like a great weekend! I love being able to get outside, and if my husband and I can do it together, that's an added bonus. We ran a 5K on Sunday and it was great! I love that this is something we are doing together. I started my weightloss with diet changes alone. It wasn't until after 3 months that I added running. Now I run 5 days a week, 4-5 miles each time, and I'm in the middle of training as this is my race season. I LOVE IT! Just keep moving, keep tracking, and you'll see results. You seem to have such a great support group! Keep up the awesome work! emoticon

Hey, you are tall! I had not caught that. I'm 5'4", so I just figured you were my closer to my height because I'm just egocentric that way. How tall are you, chica? 5'8"? That's about the height fantasy me would be.

Way to go, Candy! Good observation on the calories in trend; it's easy to start justifying eating just a little more because we're moving more, but it can get out of hand quickly. It really is mostly nutrition, but activity helps things along. You're doing great; love the fact that you've scheduled time with the kennel kids so you're assured of getting some activity whether you feel like it or not. Doing a good thing AND getting activity in is a win-win!
