Happy Birthday, Grandpa - Posthumously
Sunday, August 19, 2012
Today would be my grampa's birthday. For that matter, it would be my great-aunt's birthday as well. Sister was two years younger to the day. I loved my granddad very much. Once when I was 14, my aunt told me that I was his favourite. She knew that he wasn't supposed to have favourites, but that it was really no secret that he was that fond of me. I think that I reminded at least him of my late grandmother whom I'd never known...she died before I came along. I know that 'everyone' said how much I looked like my dad. I guess it's those strong genes on my father's side! He even could have at one time passed for a brother or cousin to former PM John Major. I saw a photograph of author named Kevin Major in NF, and it was like looking at my granddad with dark eyes! I know too that other things have been passed along through at least two generations. On my mother's side as well...all the males have cowlicks like my dad's and so do all the females just like my mum's. Some even have both! Funny, that. Besides that, the eyes, lips, cheekbones...you know. I find it all very interesting. Anyway, Happy Birthday, Grampa. I miss you. I miss you too, Aunt Maggie, and Happy Birthday to you too. You lived your lives the best that you could, and long ones at that. Thank you for being in my life - and for the spun honey you brought home every time you went up there visiting, Grampa. That was the best! I make my own now - and it's much better than what they sell at the grocery. I miss the pretty jars, though. Rest easy, both of you.

Great blog, its nice to know how much we miss those that pass and we charish their thoughts and memories. How wonderful that you were your grandpa's favourite, i am my grandmother's favourite, i just wish i didn't live so far away from here, since i got married i moved to another country, but i do write many letters to her, sending her photos or drawings from my children, that she really likes, she has never met my children, but she thinks of them. Sends them birthday cards and all, she doesn't do that with her other great grandchildren, except for the eldest one who is 15 now. So happy Birthday to your gramps and aunty. Hope you had a splendid day, did you light up candles on a cupcake for them?

Yes they do. Good, bad, neutral...they live on. Were that to not be so, they would be forgotten and cease to exist. Thank you, Debby4576.
