It has been a CRAZY couple of days

Saturday, August 18, 2012

You know how sometimes weird and crazy things just happen? This has been the week:

Wed.: The guy who moved our furniture came by to move the king-size bed and the huge entertainment center for the lady who bought them. While he was struggling with these things (because the lady said it was a small bookcase, so he didn't bring a full crew) it began to rain. He then couldn't get the big truck up the very wet and leaf-covered driveway and ended up stuck against the wall. (It's a very steep driveway, uphill.) So we were all stuck in the house for an hour, until the rain stopped, the landlord got his Hummer up over the plants, and he towed the truck up and out. THEN I could take the packages to the PO to mail, and we could finally get out loaded up cars off to the hotel.

Thurs.: We went to breakfast. We were driving back from bkfst when I saw a turtle (well, a tortoise, if you want to be specific - the land-only kind) walking across a busy street - so I stopped, and made the person coming down the hill stop - DH got out and picked up this tortoise, a neighbor lady hollered to the teenage boy in the house and he came out and collected his tortoise from DH, who told the kid his tortoise was causing a traffic jam!

Friday: Found out that the lady working afternoon/evening reception at our friends' hotel is a student from my first year teaching here!!! Wow!

Saturday: General craziness with trying to track down a mechanic; we took things to school and my classroom door seems to be miraculously fixed; we ran into our cat's vet at the restaurant for dinner, plus an old friend who is now a judge (!), and just odd little things like that.

I'm still laughing over the tortoise traffic jam - and the other person behind me who was honking their horn as I waited for the tortoise to cross the road!!!

I'm with Beseven, but I understand the desire to travel and wish you the best. It sounded like a truly blessed weekend. Blessed with friends, acquaintances and humor and you have a great gift of sharing them. Thanks.

Love that you took the time to rescue the tortoise. Traffic jam at our waterfront not long ago: a mother goose walking her fledged-but-not-yet-flying offspring across a pretty busy road. Everyone waited, nobody honking (not even the geese!!) and disaster averted . . .

Bravo for turtle rescue! I can never see one in the road without stopping and moving it to the side of the road. They don't stand a chance in the road.

And this is the place you're moving away from??? You have no idea what I'd give to live somewhere that tortoises cause traffic jams!
