The shoulder report: I started physical therapy for my shoulder this week. It's definitely hurt and weak. This will be interesting to get all figured out. Wonder if we work this all the way through if my swim speed might increase considering that I should then be using my shoulders more evenly...? Physical therapy is helping but the day after I work with my PT, my shoulder hurts. Hopefully that will diminish quickly. Possibly I'll be cleared for swimming at the end of next week, but I'm not counting my chickens.
The leg report: My right leg has been super tight for some weeks now. Rolling it, stretching it weren't really helping. I got a fierce sports massage this week, and the massage therapist declared my legs the tightest ones of the last month! He deals with pro athletes sometimes even, so that says something. My legs are looser now, but not all the way relaxed out yet. I'm planning to see him on Monday to see if he can finish grinding them back into placidity, and I'll keep going weekly until they are compliant.
Legs are making some progress because today I got my first 3 mile run in since my tri at the start of the month. Since the tri, they would just balk at distances, so I could choke out 2 miles maybe. Felt good to reclaim running for me.
Then I dutifully stretched and rolled this morning. Rolling my legs while avoiding using my right shoulder, well, let's just say it isn't easy (or maybe even possible). But the legs they are done. Tis good.
Nutrition report: My weight has not really moved much in a good while, and it's time to get it in gear. Especially since my exercise has been semi-sidelined, I've been thinking through my nutrition more. Feeling like I needed to do something to jumpstart getting all those good veggies and such into me. So I did it yesterday: I went to CostCo and bought a VitaMix blender! So now veggies and fruits suddenly feel very buzz-y to me because I'm researching crazy smoothie recipes. I've made 3 smoothies so far, 2 for me, 1 for a son. And that son will be getting his wisdom teeth out next spring, and he'll be on a soft liquid diet for 5 to 7 days after that, so this gives us time to find out all sorts of recipes he likes.
Just home from the market with the following smoothie-able ingredients: spring salad mix, kale, apples, carrots, grapefruit, beets and their greens, and probably something I've forgotten for the moment.
Came home to a fridge already full of my kids' favorite yogurts and that my husband who doesn't drink had bought a couple 6 packs of non-alcoholic beer because it's supposed to help recovering faster from long bike rides. He's training for a 400 mile bike trek in a few months. Uffta!
