Suffering from Psoriasis

Saturday, August 18, 2012

A little over a year ago I broke out with an itchy rash on my scalp and didn't know what it was. I used some special shampoos to help sooth it but instead of it going away it spread to my torso legs and arms. Needless to say I freaked out!! I thought I had caught ringworm. I went to the Doctors and told him what I thought it was, he looked at it and gave me a prescription. He said in a week it would all be gone. Oh no it got worse! I went back and he looked again and said I had psoriasis and to go to a dermatologist. Jerk, I don't have medical insurance and am currently unemployed and a full time college student so going to a specialist was not something I could do. So I went on a mission and started to do research as to what I could do for myself at home. I tried every lotion that was made for the skin problem but had no luck at all. I felt so embarrassed about having this skin problem I tried to hide it with clothes. I searched the web for information on it and what might be the cause of it and well stress was a big reason that can bring it on. I tried changing my diet, drinking more water and continued to try different store bought lotions and things to help. A few weeks ago I was reading about my condition here on Spark People and for the first time read that vitamin A can help with having healthy skin. This was the first I had heard anything about vitamin A and so I started to read more on what the symptoms of having a vitamin A deficiency can cause. Problems with your skin and loss of vision. Oh my, I have been having eye problems as well. Light bulb went off. So for the past few weeks I have started to take a multi vitamin for women and have increase my consumption of vitamin A rich foods. My psoriasis on my arms is almost completely gone, what was on my torso is gone and my legs are showing improvement!! Hurrah!! Thank you so much Spark People you were the only site that had the correct information to help me!! Just another reason why I love your site so much!! One Big THANK YOU!! emoticon
