Stress Eating!!!

Saturday, August 18, 2012

I work in a man's world. I am A manger at Car Parts Warehouse, I look up vehicle parts. I am not a mechanic. Nor can I diagnose. I answer the phone I am very cheerful and helpful. Every once in a while I will come across a man that acts like I dont know my job. I have been doing this for 9 years. I am not here to vent about that.

Since I have really been trying hard to live healthier,I have noticed when I get a phone call and the person on the other end is being demanding or cranky with me I shove food in my face. I eat in a lot of stress situations. I need to learn new coping strategies.

I usually come to work set my few snacks in my area, put lunch in the refrigerator, and get busy with my work. I need suggestions please. I suffer from my migraines if i dont on a regular basis.

Thank you :)

Try fruit, veggies, granola and keep it handy that way the damage is low when you get triggered like that.

Have you tried buying "diet" nut mixes? I buy a container from Food Lion for about $4 that I eat in one or two weeks. You can eat 1/3 cup and it's pretty filling. It's filled with raisins, nuts, cranberries, pumpkin seeds, almonds, and cashews. I also have little applesauces in my desk, and I chew Wrigley's Doublemint like some people smoke! I always have gum in my mouth. Finally, I buy bottled water to keep under my credenza in my office. Occasionally, I will squirt it with that Mio liquid to make it taste better, but so far these tricks have worked for me.

Don't be so hard on yourself -- you're doing the best you can with what you've got. Once you figure out a strategy, it will get better. Dig into the message boards, blogs, and challenges -- there's such good advice out there. You are not alone and you're not the only one to have gone through this. We're in this thing together!!

Try to have very low cal foods available for when you are eating due to stress instead of hunger. Maybe chewing sugarless gum. Or celery sticks. You can take control of this!

It's funny that I came across this, now, since I was going to post about the same subject! I'm seriously struggling with this myself. Its so discouraging because I thought I finally had a handle on it. I've gained 2 pounds in the last 2 weeks for this very reason. I'm back in a situation temporarily that has me so stressed out, and I almost immediately reverted back to my old habits. Prior to this I just focused on how it looked when I sat at my desk eating or just snacking, all day. That was a good incentive for me, trying to picture what others were seeing. Right now, as much as I do care and don't want to be like this I just can't stop myself........grrrrrr.
