Like so many of us on SP, I've struggled with weight for most of my adult life. It seemed that every time I lost weight, I would gain it back and then some. Recently I decided that I would never diet again because I honestly did not want to gain again and it seemed that the only way to avoid the gain would be to avoid the weight loss!
Then I had a couple of weight related health issues come up. Boy, did that give me a kick in the butt! As a single woman, not looking for a mate, I really didn't care if I was heavy, but I sure didn't want to live with any consequences of being overweight either!
So I decided to do exactly what Chris Downie did- exercise for at least 10 minutes everyday. That seemed do-able and a good way to counteract some of the negative health issues I was living with. Well, let me just say that I see why Chris calls it The Spark! Just by committing to that small healthy change, I began enjoying the benefits of exercise right away! A month later and the health issues were gone!
Based on my success with the exercise, I decided to start working on my eating habits. I wasn't tracking my intake at first and it was very easy to lose track of my choices plus it was so much easier to close my eyes to negative food choices when I didn't have to see the calories!
I've been tracking now for about a week and a half and what a difference! The mindfulness has been wonderful and because I'm doing this slowly, my caloric range is pretty high so I never feel deprived. If I go a little over one day, I do better the next.
I guess I've answered my question- the thing that has changed this time around is that I've honestly done it the SparkPeople way- I started with super positive, easy to maintain changes and now they continue to ignite this fire to feel and look better! It has been a wonderful adventure so far- not at all like any other attempt I have made! I need to say that I am not new to SP- I've been here for 5 years! I guess it's just finally soaking in.
And I love it!
