Did She Just Call Me FAT??!

Saturday, August 18, 2012

Just how do you 'get even' when someone calls you fat? emoticon Or do you? I say this because, unfortunately it happens! And it happened to me .......... Two occasions really stick!!

Some refer to a 'turning point' in life ........... the final straw that causes them to go 'about face.' I like to call these episodic events of rude insults: "Where the Rubber Meets The Road." It happened when I had 'had enough!'

The first mean dig I've never forgotten, though forgiven, was hurled by a distant cousin of my husbands. The scene was a family dinner & there were a lot of annoying people there ............ emoticon emoticon emoticon
Btw: did I mention 'Little Miss Crissy" was no bigger than a size TWO when she says in front of the crowd:
"Sooooooooo then, did you ever dream you would grow up to be FAT?!" .....
"No.......... I didn't", I said politely. (can yu believe?)

The next occasion that comes to mind was ...........
Shopping one day for my daughter in the petite section of a store ...... browsing about....
The woman clerk from behind the counter bellows out to me (for all to hear).........
"EXCUSE ME ........... BUT THE WOMEN'S SECTION IS THAT WAY!! ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORE!" ................ emoticon ........
Maybe my manners were more polished than they are today .............. as I did not flog her or the 'distant' cousin ............

Instead, this is what I did ............. emoticon ....... Sweet Revenge! .... or was it Avenge? ....... anyway, I took the high road, forgave and went on .......... BUT I decided to do something about it ............ It was time!

Like a bull who is soon to charge, nostrils flare, snorts, and digs his hoofs in to the hot dust ............ most intimidating if he is looking at you! Well ........... this was my new attitude! I was ready to charge ............ full steam ahead and let nothing get in my way! ............. There was NO turning back! .........

Bitter Turns Sweet~
What happened, you wonder? ........ emoticon ....... Funny how the tables often turn ............ "Little Miss Chrissy" and I ended up working in the same company (briefly)........... Not only had I lost at least 30# and was fit .... but it looked as though we had 'traded' places ............ She was now quite heavy..... plus, I walked up one day as she was saying to the manager, "I really need to lose weight" ............ he looked at her, then me and said ........... "Well this is the 'Fitness Queen' ............... just ask her!" ..........

Mind you ....... I did not deliberatly 'set out' to get even with anyone ....... In fact, I look at it like: What was said as a 'sting' at the time turned out to be the very thing that 'sparked' me to do what it took ........... so in a sense, these people I mentioned may actually be my best spark friends! ............. emoticon

Ahh, about a year ago, when I was saving up to buy my first elliptical trainer, this girl comes up to me and says to my you are fat and loosing your looks, oh man, like I was somehow taking up her extra supply of air or something, I just simply told her I am doing something about it, but it hurt you know. Anyway I am getting fit by the day, I eat right and I am working out. So lets keep pushing the Spark people. emoticon emoticon

It's so sad that there are such inappropriate people in the world. But how nice and rewarding that the manger referred to you as the fitness queen!!!

I know this feeling. I was in a church, which was filling up with people there to witness the baptism of new members. My granddaughter, age maybe 5, says in a screechy, well-heard-by-all voice, "Grandma, you are the fattest person in the whole church." Ah.... yes. I actually don't think I am, and it bothered me that my son did not bend down and quietly tell his little girl that such comments are impolite. It bothered me more that her mother, my daughter-in-law who does her best to not get along, smirked. Of course, I forgave them all right away. I am fat, after all. But I do remember how it felt.
PS~"forgive and forget" must be mistranslated. Forgive and don't hang onto your anger or hurt is more realistic. Our brains were not created to be able to completely forget, or we'd never be empathetic or be careful of others' feelings. I know I've really forgiven somebody when I can remember and think about the incident and feel nothing much, except maybe regret if it's myself I have to forgive.

DID YOU EVER SEE THE MOVIE "PRETTY WOMAN" WITH JULIA ROBERTS? I REMEMBER THE SCENE WHERE THE CLERKS WOULD NOT WAIT ON HER IN A FANCY STORE BECAUSE SHE WAS DRESSED LIKE A HOOKER. SHE HAD THE MONEY BUT THEY STILL WOULDN'T WAIT ON HER. WHEN SHE WENT BACK - IN HER NEW CLOTHES, THEY DIDN'T RECOGNIZE HER AND SHE REMINDED THEM AND THEN SAID, "BIG MISTAKE - HUGE!" THE NEXT TIME SOMEONE (LIKE LITTLE MISS SIZE 2) SAYS SOMETHING LIKE THAT, JUST COME BACK WITH, "DID YOU EVER THINK YOU WOULD GROW UP TO BE SO STUPID?"

emoticon Awesome Way that things 'worked out'!!
I have no idea about your "Manners" but I would not have blamed You or Your Mom for decking either of those people. But the way it worked out was even better, in a way.
emoticon I wonder if either of them even remembers what they said to you, or how inappropriate they were?

Loved your story about what happened at work! And you didn't even have to initiate it yourself!

One of the other stories reminded me of something I will never forget that happened when I was a teenager. I must have been 16. I was in a women's clothing store with my mom in my small town...this was where all the popular girls shopped. The manager was a man who went to our temple, so he was like another father figure. I had tried something on...it didn't fit, and he said, "Oh, I could order it for you. What size are you?" We told him that I was an 18, and he practically yelled "AN 18??? WE'LL HAVE TO SLIM YOU DOWN!!!!!!" while there were several girls from school nearby buying prom dresses. (Of course I never got to go to the prom...nobody asked me!) That is a moment I will never forget.
