I just wanted to talk a bit about Curves for Women. With the encouragement from my spark daughter Pixie, I joined Curves in May and did excellent my first month there, I lost 4 lbs and 8 ½ inches over all my body. But due to some life circumstances, I could not continue to get there the 3 times a week that is necessary to reap good benefits and I fell back into not-so-good eating and exercising. Poor excuse but there you have it! I want to say here that each time I went for my session on the machines, I felt wonderful, so energized and I had an over-all feel good feeling that would last till my next session. It gave me back some of my self-esteem and encouragement galore! And Pixie was kind enough to send me a couple of her Curve shirts to wear, which boosted my morale too!
As I mentioned, life intervened with my getting there! I don’t drive and my husband has ongoing health issues. I had been waking him up early in the morning so that I could get in an early session. He has to wait in our van while I’m in Curves so it wasn’t a good idea for us to go later in the day, it was too hot for him to sit out there! Night time was out too. Because he has been sick a lot lately and not getting good sleeps, I didn’t want to wake him up early any more. What to do? What to do . . . that question was what prompted me to ask staff if anyone goes there from my area. I was told no, so a ride seemed to be out for me.
But wait, fast forward to this week! We got a call from a woman on Wednesday who said she understood I needed a ride to Curves and she was willing to pick me up on her way . . . it turns out she just lives a block down the street from me and she likes early morning sessions too! So she came at 7 AM on Thursday morning and I instantly liked her! I’m 77 and she is in her 40’s but the age difference didn’t seem to matter, we found we liked each other and we have a lot in common. First, I’m deaf and have a cochlear implant . . . I cannot understand everyone’s speech but found I could understand hers really well. Also, we each have a child with Down Syndrome and that gave us a lot to talk about right there! We had our session on the machines then she drove me home and we sat in her car in my driveway for half an hour just to chat and get acquainted. It turns out that she had been going to Curves off and on and that by knowing she’d be picking me up, someone to go with, she’d get back to going regularly too, it seems we are helping each other! We exchanged email addresses to keep in touch and decided we’d go to Curves every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning at 7 AM. I definitely feel this lovely woman was sent in answer to my prayer and I thank those who prayed for me to get a ride so that I could get to my sessions and work on getting fit and healthy!
This reinforces my faith and belief that good things do happen and happen for a reason. Have faith and keep hanging in there, a solution can be found for any of our problems in this life. Doesn’t just apply to needing a ride somewhere!
