My Day Got a Little Better...

Friday, August 17, 2012

The nursing home assessment went well today. There is a good possibility that there might be an available bed for my Mom in the dementia unit in the next few weeks. I told the social worker that if I had to do this for the next two weeks, months or years that I would but I am exhausted & am hoping that Mom sleeps through the night tonight. All-nighters back to back really do a job on me...I kept focused today with my meals. Two of my ANGEL friends tagged teamed it this evening & sat with my Mom from 5:30 till 8:30P.M. so that I could get together with seven of my girlfriends for dinner. It was wonderful to get out & have some adult conversation, laughter & a few tears. God blessed with a wonderful group of friends. That's all for now. I am going to try & get to bed early this evening... "just in case." Take care...

So very glad that you got out and had a break last night and that you are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm with you. My mother is moving into dementia and I am having to do more and more for her. She doesn't understand anything, has no memory, but has a million excuses. God love you, I hope your Mom gets her bed. You'll feel better having help, even though you will still be very involved.

Hopefully you will be able to get her placed quickly. Then you can sleep at night and visit her during the day. You'll be a better support person for her that way.

So glad you had the time to spend with friends, it is so important - especially as a caregiver. Praying your mom gets the bed.

Just take it one day at the time. It won't be much longer before a bed is available. They don't really know when someone will be transferred or need to go to the hospital.
I'm glad that you had a night out. I know it did you good physically and mentally.

I know what you mean. My grandmother has dementia too and every now and then she has these episodes. Totally exhausting. They're not as bad now since I started putting coconut oil in her food.
