The Summer 5% Challenge is over (well, it will be by the end of the day). I didn’t expect to lose any weight – I had decided to maintain, and I did manage to hover around the desired weight and ended on that weight.
Instead of losing weight, I wanted to lose inches – from my waist and abs (I’m one of those people for whom the abs are a major trouble spot). I’m happy to say I did manage to lose more than 5% from those places. So I guess the challenge was a success.
I haven’t been exercising consistently, though. Some days I do none at all (yeah, I know, I can claim it’s a “rest day”). Then yesterday, I took a 3-mile hike. And today, I took a 4-mile walk. I hadn’t planned to walk that far – I just kept going, then checked RunKeeper (an iPhone app) and realized that no matter how far I walked, I’d also have to walk it back home.
I am considering some upcoming walks for charity. If I can walk daily, a 5K will be a piece of cake. Maybe a 10K, too.
I have joined a newly formed Wellness Committee at work. I'm not 100% sure what our mission will be, but I know it will have something to do with keeping employees healthy. I work for a human service agency, so this sort of mission is important. I may be the sole representative for my division, an often underrepresented division. Our first meeting is still a month away, and my participation on the committee is expected to be a one-year commitment. I'm excited about it!
I know there is talk of a Fall 5% Challenge. I might be game. I may not fully participate all the time (but I join a team where that is okay), but I do like the camaraderie and the accountability (even if we don’t exercise, we need to post it). If I can keep on maintaining, then I will be happy.
