Spoke too soon...

Friday, August 17, 2012

Yesterday, I was saying that Mom had been doing pretty good & then last night at 3 A.M. she walked into my bedroom, flipped on the overhead lights & yelled for help.. I was up most of the night with her. The nursing home assessment team will be here today at 2:00, so I hope that we both don't sleep through it. Say some prayers. I will try & ck. in again later...Take care...

You're doing a great, great job. This is an incredibly difficult task, even for trained professionals.

My sister cared for her mother-in-law at home, but she waited too long to contact the nursing home, get on the waiting list, etc. Mom was accusing my sister of trying to poison her, of stealing from her; she'd yell out the window that she was a captive, she punched the children . . and more. All this from a woman who was once an incredibly intelligent, cultured, loving and kind person. I'm glad I remember her that way. Too bad the kids don't remember her that way. Even after mom entered the nursing home the children 'acted out' in ways that were attributed to the fear and uncertainty they experienced when they all lived together.

I'm sure you've heard it all, and you think your mom is not "there yet". Nonetheless, it's so good that you're staying in touch with professional assessors. I'd say you're doing everything right on your end with the situation you've been given.

Take care, Janey.

So sorry to hear about your bad night but everything for a reason - that could have been simply to remind you that you are doing the right thing for mom and for you.
Thoughts and prayers are with you and am waiting to hear about the assessment visit, I am sure that it will be all good, the assessment team should know what they are doing, what to look for ..
