New FitBit Ultra arrived yesterday

Friday, August 17, 2012

After forgetting about my GoWear Fit and jumping in the pool with it still on, I wasn't able to revive it. I debated replacing it or not. On the one hand, being free from the device itself and the focus on numbers was, well, freeing. On the other hand, I enjoy the feedback it gave. I decided to look into a FitBit instead. It is more discreet, and it doesn't require a monthly subscription. Those two reasons alone were quite appealing. I don't think it is as accurate as the GWF, from what I've read, but I think it will give me a general sense of things and serve as a good reminder to me when I'm not getting up and getting moving enough! After wearing it for about 12 hours now, if anything I'd say it's underestimating compared to my GWF.

Regarding lunch: I decided to bring my own this year. We'll see how that decision pans out, but for now I'm glad about it.

Today is my last official day off (other than the weekend). I've been on call this week and tending to things via email, and I went in Tuesday afternoon for a few hours. Monday everyone is back and it all starts up again. Students come back the following week. I don't think I'm ready yet, mentally, to begin again, but I will be once we're all there, together again. I always am.

Saw goal weight again on the scale yesterday. It doesn't happen often; I'm usually about 1-3 pounds over it. It's nice when it actually does appear.

I will be interested to hear how you like the FitBit--I've heard generally good things about it. I can't imagine it would be quite as accurate as the BMF or BB devices, but for where you're at now, it seems like a reasonable alternative. Hope it works well for you, and I hope the lunch decision does too. Fall is approaching WAY too fast for my taste; we've barely started having summer around here! Congratulations on seeing goal weight again, by the way; that is awesome!
