The summer is winding down and the school year starts next week, so I am trying to get some good biking in. Beautiful paths: the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail in Lewisburg PA (18 miles)--did it today. Gorgeous farmland and a very picturesque town. Susquehanna River Rail Trail in Williamsport (18 miles)--another beauty. Pine Creek Rail Trail in the Endless Mountains area of north central PA is long and lovely--we do around 20 miles when we go. I also do a lovely 12.5 hilly loop in the countryside near my house.
On vacation in the Poconos last week my hubby and I did two bike rides, one 25 miles and one 17 miles, on the Lehigh Gorge Trail, which runs from Jim Thorpe up past White Haven on the Lehigh River. Unbelievably beautiful. We also rode quite a bit around our cabin and lake. I also swam across the lake and back several times a day with my sisters, so from 1/3 of a mile to 1 1/3 miles swimming a day. Add family walks, campfires, talking, noodling around with the kids, nieces, and nephews, and delicious food for a perfect week. I brought 100 ears of farmstand corn, which all got eaten! Such a great family reunion!
I pretty much ate whatever, without tracking, and still lost a pound. Yay! Must've been all the exercise, plus I have learned moderation, thanks to Sparkpeople.
I like to think my body is thirty but alas it is not. Biking 20 miles feels GREAT at the time, but I I am pretty tired all the rest of the day. Recovery time is much slower than when I was younger. Will this get better? Anyone know?
A little problem: school starts next week (I teach college) and my clothes do not fit. No, really. I have lost 35 lbs. I'm not ready to buy a new wardrobe as I still want to lose 18-20 lbs more. Guess I better look for a good consignment shop. The Salvation Army just isn't cutting it for professional wear.
So, Sparkies, have a great week. I am so thankful for this big CHANGE in me. I just hope I can keep the pounds off. I think I read somewhere that if you can keep the weight off for 3 years you have it licked. Woo hoo!
