7. 8/14 A Very Late Good Morning From the Nest

It has been an exciting day at the nest. Due to many technical difficulties I couldn't blog about it until now and even this will be with unedited pictures.

I did do a little research last night so just FYI:

Nest inside is 4" in diameter

3-4 eggs laid, only female sits (50 minutes out of every hour), one egg laid a day
So, I dubbed 1-2-3-4 basically by size; that shall be their names with 4 having a definite size advantage when you think of the difference a day makes.

They are nestlings from 9-16 days. I'm guessing this depends more on the nest location than the nestlings. This was an ideally placed nest! The upright branches prevented accidental falling.

When one leaves the nest it becomes a fledgling and the adult male is in charge of continuing to feed them for 4 weeks while the female goes about setting up for the next brood. Being this late in the season; she may just join a flock and be done with it! Gotta love a happy ending!

GOOD MORNING, the day with me started at 8:30; a cloudy morning.

Kinda hard to tell the status of the nest right now.

10:03 a.m. Two are gone (4&3 the oldest) 1&2 remain, 1 being the youngest.
Who will leave next?

Oh My Gosh! The little one?

10:17 a.m. "I'm outta here!"

10:20 Good by #1

Only 2 remains; just how badly can he tick his Dad off??! You'll have to come back
later for the rest of the story. I think it will be worth it.

    I didn't know dad cared for the fledglings. Interesting! And how hilarious are the expressions on Xena and Sugar's faces?? LOL
