Time for an update

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

I am still blogging (after a 2 month break) over at www.carlyshrinks.com, but I know a lot of SparkFriends don't check it so I thought I would put an update on here.

I have spent the summer running 3 miles, 3 days a week and participated in 3 5Ks. I've improved my running pace, but I still feel like I have a long way to go. As hard as this is to admit, I haven't lost anymore weight (and I actually gained some lbs back). I never stopped running/exercising, but diet plays such a HUGE role in weight loss that it is impossible to lose. I don't like to make excuses for my actions (I definitely enjoyed some restaurant eating and more sweets than I should have), but I started a different form of birth control and felt out of control with my eating. .. and never satisfied. I talked to my doc and she said what I was taking (ortho tri cyclen) is known for weight gain, so I'm starting the lo version on Thursday. Again, I'm not blaming the meds, because I was aware what I was putting in my mouth at all times. Despite the gain, I'm still upbeat. I don't feel like this isn't anything I can handle and I think a lot of this weight is going to come off pretty easy. I'm trying to get to a place where I can eat healthy and lose/maintain my weight without counting every calorie I put in my mouth. Until then, though, I need to keep counting and tracking EVERYTHING.

Right now I'm in my 3rd week of training for my 2nd half marathon. It will be the Columbus, OH Nationwide Children's Hospital HM on Oct 21. I cannot wait! I want to finish in under 3 hrs... 2:30 would be spectacular!

Here's my most proud pic ever. 9 months, 100 lbs, 1 half marathon and 395.3 miles later... my dead running shoes:

I know exactly what you mean with the ortho! My first week on it I felt nauseous and actually usually dry-heaved every morning. Brilliant and in-tune with my body that I am I was completely convinced that I was pregnant because the "magic" pill hadn't worked. (Which, it wouldn't have even kicked in yet so we were still using other methods...anyway, like I said, I'm BRILLIANT!) :-P AND I ate everything I could get my hands on. It was really uncool.

But when I went to the lo version it was much better. Hopefully it will be for you too!

Hi there! Congrats on an awesome, steady summer of runs!! Just wanted to say that you're blogs and guest post on Slim Katie's blog inspired me to go from walking on my treadmill to pushing myself to do walk/run workouts. I did not think that I was capable of running at my weight but once I started, it felt awesome and I am slowly but surely progressing along :) Also- I too used to take ortho tri cyclen and felt "out of control" with my eating as you described. I know it was not the sole cause of my diet problems but definitely not a help! Glad to hear you are switching medications. Best of Luck!!
