Let's Talk About Food

Monday, August 13, 2012

Food is necessary to sustain life. However true this is...

In this country food is so readily available and it is so acceptable to "worship our stomach" that we indulge in overeating and eating foods containing so much junk that we are slowly killing ourselves. It isn't "politically correct" to comment on another person's weight or food choices, further encouraging this sense of "entitlement."

Feeding our kids healthy food and teaching them to make healthy food choices is difficult as so few do this. It just becomes another fight.

"But I don't like stir fry, Mom!' Oh, okay honey, lets find something you LIKE so we can all be happy! How about some chicken nuggets and fries! Kiss Kiss.

OR

"I don't like stir fry mom! Well, you need to eat what is on your plate anyway. I promise it isn't poisoned and it is good for your body." Grumble, scowl!

The schools are radically changing the rules concerning cafeteria food over the next 3 years in hopes to help but government discourages schools from addressing the dire need for these changes in anything but a positive way. Commercials about Meth are scary and to the point. Can't we address our nations growing health problems (which are almost all caused or complicated by poor eating choices) the same way? Meth is by far a smaller problem than the health in our country which is due to the abundance of junk we consume. Companies producing these food which are TOTALLY void of nutrition should be ashamed of themselves! They market this junk to our kids and now our kids are in worse shape than their parents!

We need to just stop! Stop buying the junk, stop eating the junk and feed our bodies with the nutrients that it needs. Investing in our health is just as important as saving for college for our kids, buying that big house, teaching our kids manners, paying our bills, etc.

We need to take time to understand what is good food and what isn't and feed our bodies, not our stomachs.
