A Biking Tale and Other Stuff....

Monday, August 13, 2012

So...Saturday I was feeling rather slug like and I realized that I hadn't really done anything physical all day. So at 5PM I hoisted my butt off the couch and headed out on an adventure. You see since I got my beautiful bike, I've been wanting to get proper biking shoes with cleats to increase the pwer of my rides. I've also been needing a new pair of sunglasses since mine were stolen in Paris. I got a crap pair to replace them but I really hate those and wanted a proper pair.

So....at 5PM as I said I hoisted my butt off the couch and relinquished the Olympics to the couch potatoes and walked a mile or so to the sunglass shop where I got myself a great new pair of wraps. Then it was onto the subway for a ride downtown to Soho and REI! There a very nice oke educated me all about biking shoes and cleats and such. After trying on a half dozen pairs or so, I settled on one that I really liked and got the right cleats for the bike and off I went, re-energized to try out all the new gear when I got home!

Subway back up town, go home, open the cleats, grab a sneaker, and realize that I don't have an Allen wrench to fit. UGH! OK at least I can bike with the new shoes!. They were SO much better fitting in the cage! Heaven!

So Sunday I went to the gym early to get in my wog, and after I swung by Home Depot and picked up an Allen wrench set. Gotta love Home Depot!! Then it was home to sort my shoes so I could finally bike with cleats!

WRONG!!!! The shoes I got came with a shim as the cleat bed is recessed. And guess what......the bolts aren't long enough to reach the screw base! OY! Thank the gods for Google, b/c all I had to do was type in long bolts for bike cleats and I knew everything there was on the topic including where to get the longer bolts! WHICH hopefully are on their way to me and will be here by the end of the week!!

On some other fronts, I've been trying out the free test run of Spark Coach. I've not made up my mind about it yet. I do like the video and the visualization, they tend to keep me focused thruout the day. Work is work, that doesn't change. I really have to get serious about finding a new gig!

Then there's the dating front....I've been seeing this guy for a bit now. But he has a really bad habit of waiting til like Friday to ask me out for the weekend. HELLO! If he knows he wants to see me, then sort it out at the beginning of the week b/c I'm not waiting around for him to do it and WILL make other plans!! So Friday when he'd pulled this nonsense AGAIN, I already had plans to see the Best Man on Broadway Friday night, and had plans with friends on Saturday. So we made tentative plans for Sunday or Monday. 6:30 Sunday night he calls and says "I've been looking over my To Do list and don't think I'll have time to see you before I go off sailing on Tuesday." Really....He did NOT just relegate me to an item on his to do list AND expect to ever hope to spend time with me again DID he??? Pffft!!! NOT!!!

So that's all the news that's fit to print and otherwise.....

Well, Mr. To Do List obviously needs improvement in his social skills (which is probably why he was available in the first place?!?). He should have plenty of time now to work on them! I'm with everyone else, REI should have done it for you, although I admit to being clueless as to what exactly "it" was. I thought cleats were for football players not bicyclists, which shows how much I avoid my bike.

#1 - I would have been right back to REI with exactly what I'd walked out with as far as the bike shoes and tell THEM to put the cleats on. Anything less is BS. There is no way in heck you should have to construct your own shoes at the price I'm sure you paid and I'm pretty certain REI would happily fix things up.

#2 - The boyfriend (?) sounds like an ass. If he feels he can call at the last minute and just move time with you around based entirely on his convenience - that is not acceptable. It indicates he has no respect for your life, your time, your responsibilities. I think you might seek farther afield, because this dude sounds like a real loser.

Wow, looks like clown-boy needs to ditch the to-do list mentality.....did he also send you a dinner invitation on a powerpoint slide, or try to set up a video-teleconference to discuss which show to go see? Hey here's a great dating idea for a workaholic guy, have him build a presentation on why he should date you, to include 3 options for dinner and drinks. Have him run this by your Spark friends for pre-approval before he makes the pitch to you and make sure he pre-coordinates it with the finance dept.

On the biking front, I'd recommend taking your shoes and cleats to the oke from REI and tell him to install them for you....they have plenty of spare parts and bolts.

Now crank up the intensity on that sweet, sweet Keiser M3 and get to touring this great land!
