This running "thing"

Monday, August 13, 2012

I treadmill'ed it again yesterday at the gym and actually kept a steady pace for 12 consecutive minutes. That's the longest stretch I've run since high school...and that 12 minutes was the mile I HAD to run for P.E.! I kept going another 13 minutes, varying between fast walking, regular jogging pace and SPRINTS!!! I did 3 30-second sprints at speed 6.0 on the treadmill...I have no idea what actual speed that is, but it felt FAST!!

I've researched some local 5k's and am DEFINITELY doing our local Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving, but there are two races in October that I have my eye on. It might be time to register and get a solid training schedule in place. Wow. An actual event to train for. I've never TRAINED for anything athletic before. Amazing feeling, actually - even just thinking about it makes me excited and proud!

I only lost a pound over the past two weeks, but my body fat when down a % and I lost a 1/2 inch in my waist, so those are positive NSV's in my pocket. That and the fact that I am sleeping like a log at night. Hit the hay before 9 pm last night and didn't wake until the alarm at 6:30. LOVE IT!

I love how working out makes me sleep so much better. Luckily, my 2 year old son has decided to sleep all night this past week as well! Way to go on the run! I'm working my way back up there and doing the couch 2 5K program right now to ease my way back into the running!
