Another emotional week

Monday, August 13, 2012

This is the week parents as a whole waits for all of their child's young lives, either when they leave home for college or some other venture on their own. Well our youngest son leaves for college on Thursday morning. All of the checklist that he has gotten from Bowling Green State University has been filled. The car we got him for graduating high school is in the garage instead he is taking his bike. its a small campus anyway. Most of all the things are packed are just waiting in piles in his room for Wednesday night.
It seems that every night for the last week we have been cooking all of the things that he loves to eat, red beans and sausage with rice, meatballs and broccoli in noodles pork chops on the grill. Its gonna be strange when we want this stuff from now on its gonna just be for two. The next big menu item is chicken and white gravy over noodles. Him and his older brother used to make this in the slowcooker on sundays when they were both home and its gonna be a change.
He has been going to small gathering of all his friends that he graduated from high school to say his goodbyes to all of them. I sure hope these three days go by as slow as the first 18 years did,but they will fly by like the first 18 did i know...i know it a crazy last line but its the way i see it happening. Have a great week everyone!

Oh Randy, I DO feel your pain! I've "been there and done that" when my Meaganne left for a University that was more than an hours drive away, instead of choosing to attend the University that is here in our own city, like her older sister and brothers had done.

It was even harder I think, though when Shawn decided to head off to the U.S. to do his Ph. D., because then I knew we would probably only get to see him a few days out of the year.

At least Nick will be close enough that he can come home for a weekend here and there! It will take some time before you can start enjoying all the 'peace and quiet' with just you and Linda in the house, but it will happen. PROMISE!!!!!
Hugs,
Kathy

You each are opening a new chapter in the book of life. It's emotional & scary not knowing what's ahead, but the bonds you have formed will see you through all the changes. Enjoy your day!

I can imagine how emotional this week is for you and your wife!
I remember taking my son (my only surviving child) to his university - when I left to come home, he was standing on the sidewalk all by himself and I was bawling as I drove away. The house seemed so empty without him there, but I did adjust, gradually. You will too.
I'll be thinking of you.

Hugs, Leslie

That's sad! I hope he's not too far away and he'll be back often (with laundry, LOL!)
