Another Weekend Behind Us

Sunday, August 12, 2012

The weather has been really nice the last 3 days.

Ever wonder what it's like to be an octogenarian? Both of my grandmas lived to be in their late 80s. One had a lot of medical problems for years prior to her death. The other was only sick for 6 months before she died. My dad is now in his early 80s so when we got home yesterday from spending the day working at my MIL's house and saw that he had called I was alarmed as I worry about him. Dad lives alone on a large lake in a national forest. It's quite a distance to a town on winding, hilly roads. I called him when we got home at 8 last night to find out if he was okay and if he needed anything. Why did he call? He had been invited to a BBQ and while there had ran into a girl I supposedly went to kindergarten with named Norma and wanted me to talk to her on the phone. LOL. Do I know who Norma is? No, but Dad is convinced I should remember her even though it has 55 years since kindergarten. LOL.

On Saturday my son didn't have to work until late so he went to a friend's house for a while before work and my husband and I went to my MIL's house so hubby could mow the lawn and we could price more of her possessions. We then went to a store to get some ideas on more pricing, went to Sam's, and ate at McDonald's on the way home. We got home at 8.

We have caught 2 of the mice in the house and there are less ants and fruit flies. Less pests in one area but I have another MRSA coming on. LOL.

Today was really nice and hubby and I went for 2 nice long walks. It was cloudy and sprinkled a little. We sat down by the pond and I was stung by a yellow jacket. Very painful. He got the old antenna taken down out of a tree. We have tried to get it down or years. He cut down a bunch of weed and trees by the pond that will soon block the Hughes dish.

Strawberry came today and ate a bunch of fruit. She was the only one today.

So, dad was okay, right? My mom was in her 80's when she left us, too. I think the thing about thinking about that...yes, I'd love to live into my 80's...and I want to be uber healthy when I'm there. So, we're in the right place, right? Sorry to hear you are under the weather today. Hope you feel better soon. Keep up the good work! Thanks for the encouragement! Spark on! emoticon

So sorry to hear about your MRSA and getting stung!!! Ken got stung by a bumble bee the other day and put Vicks on it..he said it stopped the stinging and didn't become inflamed or anything.
Your dad is AWESOME!!! Sorry he worried you but his heart is definitely in the right place. Sure had me laughing when I heard he was ok.
Continued blessings and hugs,
Helen

My mom is 93 and life is hard for her. Her energy seems lower and she has arthritis. She is happy other than that. getting older is hard.

That was funny about remembering someone from Kindergarten! I doubt I would either.

Sorry about the yellowjacket. Glad you got a nice walk in. That is where I am headed.

The call from your Dad sounds like the calls we field from our folks, too. We haven't lived in the area for 20 years, let alone seen anyone from kindergarten, LOL.

Hope your week goes well; we're sending mild temps.

Horry to hear that MRSA is rearing its ugly head again.
Be careful and try and slow down again. I hope it is not too severe.
Your dad sounds like a sweetheart. I wonder if Norma really
remembers you after 55 years. Did you call her?

I am glad you are finally having good weather. How is MIL's
house and pricing coming along. I think once all this is done
and dusted you will have no more flare ups.

Have a great week. emoticon

"take good care of yourself, you have good genes & you're going to live a long time" a quote from my 91 year old Mama. Now, if I would just listen to her!

We're hoping for a few days in the high nineties towards the end of this week instead of constantly being over 100 every day. No rain in sight, so maybe that means we will get some! LOL The weatherman hasn't been very good with his predictions this year.

Your dad sounds like a sweetheart for even remembering something like that! How cool that he lives where he does, but I do understand the worry. My brother and I just had a conversation about our parents recently and how we worry about them, how long they'll be with us, how they'll cope if the other goes first. It's a horrible conversation to have and I hate that we're at that age that we're even talking about it. They aren't super old, but still. Mom is 71, dad is 69. I hope they live very, very long lives because I don't know how I'll cope without them.

Sorry you got stung :( But those walks still sound pleasant!

I had yellow jacket stings a bit over a week ago--must be a time for them to chine given the warm, dry summer. Arghhh, I am so glad that I didn't have a reaction to all of those stings.
I am now trying to remember anyone but the teacher from my kindergarten class--but I cannot. I had never thought about that--I really cannot remember any kids until I was in second grade. I think it is funny that the classmate remembers you, must have a remarkable early memory.
We had real rain most of the afternoon and evening here for the first time that I can remember all summer. I am glad to see it, but it is far too late to save so much of the foliage around here. Ah well. I'm glad that Strawberry enjoyed her meal.
Take care,
Sylvia

Try meat tenderizer for the sting. Takes the pain away.

We've been distroying nests here the last couple week. Regular condos;)
