This morning when I woke up I realized that three weeks from that moment I will have completed the Disneyland Half Marathon! Yikes...it is a little scary to think about. It is coming up so fast now!
Today I ran 10.7 miles. I drove to the City of Newark (Delaware) to run because I keep running the same streets over and over around my development and I am getting bored! It's a good run for up to 5 miles, not so good for long runs. So, I went running all over a neat little town I grew up in. Actually, I moved from Newark three years ago, so...
I parked at a central location and left water and a towel in the car. I tracked my miles with my runkeeper as I went. I had different places in mind to go. Around mile four I was getting thirsty (it was humid out) so I ran back to my car, got a drink then kept moving on. The same thing happened around mile 8.
Mile 9 seems to be the "wall" for me. I kept the same pace throughout mile 9, but my legs felt like concrete blocks. It actually was ticking me off! I gave myself an assessment - I was breathing fine, could sort of talk, my feet and knees didn't hurt; so I made myself trudge through. Of course my mind was trying to talk me into walking, but I had made it that far running and decided I wasn't going to walk when I was so close to ten miles. When I hit about 10.5 miles my legs felt light again!
I think it is time for me to buy some honey or an energy bar to eat at mile 8. A friend advised me to do this before and I remembered her suggestion at mile 9 today! Yes, it would have been a nice time to try and see if my legs eased up! I am going to run at least 10 miles next weekend and want to try it before the marathon to make sure I don't get sick, etc. I have decided I will not run 13.1 until the half marathon - if I can run 10 - 11 miles okay I will be fine. It is also time for me to figure out what I am going to wear, I want to be as comfortable as I can.
After I ran today, I went to the gym and bought a peanut butter/chocolate protein shake (made with skim milk, of course!) Then I drove home and fell asleep on the couch for two whole hours! 10.7 miles plus the humidity wore me out!

“The trouble with jogging is that by the time you realize you're not in shape for it, it's too far to walk back."
