I HATE those words! I grew up on The See Food Diet, and have not yet mastered the art of not eating food simply because it's there.
I'm leaving this afternoon for a trade show that is known for the food. From 8 am to 7:30 pm there is food somewhere for the attendees and vendors. I notice on the registration form they ask about dietary restrictions, and there's a good reason: these buffets are NOT for heart patients, diabetics, or anyone without elastic waist pants!
Many people say "it won't kill you to enjoy yourself for a few days". Yeah, that's where it starts. When you attend these things every other month you have to say 'when' or your waistline will suffer for it! I've been on a roll lately, and am not looking forward to it. My strategy is oatmeal or eggs with fruit for breakfast, fruit and a granola bar for snacks, load up on salad at lunch and stay clear from dinner. There's always a carving station, but beef is not my favorite. Everything else is always fried. I'll grab a plate of veggies, crackers and cheese to hold me over until the evening festivities end, then find a healthy dinner elsewhere. I hate spending the money, but otherwise I'd fill up on fried snacks!
So I'm grabbing protein bars and almonds & raisins for the flight. Wish me luck when I get there!
