Rain, rain, go away...

Saturday, August 11, 2012

Actually, don't. Stay. We need you! It's been so nice to have afternoon thunderstorms, even though they've been interfering with my ability to ride my bike.

Another thing interfering with my bike rides: I can't find my helmet! I'm not comfortable riding more than half a mile or so without my helmet, and it's been eaten by the pile of JUNK in my dining room. It was on a dresser that was in there, but we threw he dresser away, and the pile got absorbed by the bigger pile.

Another one of my hangups, you see (while we're discussing my character flaws) is that I'm a borderline hoarder. I lack the compulsive aspects of it, and the emotional attachment to the junk, but we are very messy, and have a very difficult time keeping our house clean. I have no problem getting rid of crap, but it's sitting down and doing it that's my problem. It's SO hard to do, because it's a gigantic mess, and it's going to take weeks of work to take care of it. My husband sucks at helping, too.

It costs us time, and money, because we often lose things, and then spend forever looking for them, or have to replace them. We've been making small amounts of progress with it, here and there, but it's still there, and I don't know if I'll ever get rid of it all.

Yeah, yeah, I know, just do a little bit each day, right? Like I've never heard THAT advice. That doesn't work for me. We do a little bit each day just to maintain the damn thing and keep it from getting bigger. We can clean one spot, and within 24 hours, it'll be back the way it was, or worse. I clean my living room desk/table, and it'll be covered in crap again by the end of the day.

I wish I could afford one of those cleaning services. They'd charge too much, though, and would probably run away screaming.

Another area where we are twins! I always thought a bigger house would fix it, but now it just has more room to spread. I'm not sure what the answer is. There's probably something totally simple for everyone else I'm just overlooking. But I can totally relate to having to buy something because you can't find it. Like I've bought two tubes of flouride free baby toothpaste, and I haven't seen it since vacation. I should really be brushing his teeth every night but I am so mad at myself for losing both tubes!

Order is the best way to conquer this. If you just get started and make one nice area with clear plastic boxes and other containers to hold like objects, then you can start to organize your things. You will also find those things you lost and figure out what things you have too many off. Then make donations to your local charities of things you don't need and/or have way too many of.

You have to get started on it though or it just won't get done. Procrastination goes hand in hand with hoarding. Get to work and keep the faith.

maybe the local church or a local charity might offer a cleaning up service might be worth looking into.i have the same with my family and it drives me nuts i am forever cleaning up after and around them and when they canīt find anything they expect me to know where it is.i was brought up in a very tidy place where there was a place for everything and everything in its place even the furnature.if moved for cleaning they had to be put back in the same spot from before as my mother was blind and that way she could lead a relatively normal life.it was hard on us when we where very small but we soon got in to the hang of it.why canīt i get my kids to do the same.i gues it is because they follow their dad who will take off his clothes where he is standing and i could find shirt, trouswers anywhere from the hall to the kitchen would you believe.so is life but i am still working on in.i keep saying to my kids if they put the thing back where they got it from in itzs place they would never have to look for it again and never have to tidy up as it is already in its place, lol.good luck emoticon

I'm a chucker and believe me it's not all that. No cleaning service would go near my flat either - it may be sparsely furnished but there are new life forms growing in the corners.
