The break-up...

Luckily, it's not what you may have initially thought... my boyfriend and I are still very much together. =)

But... I did break up with my treadmill at the end of June.

I didn’t even really mean to do it. I mean… I love my treadmill!

But, something else caught my attention… and that was that.



My boyfriend and I started the journey of selling his house and attempting to build a new house… OUR house! =)

My free time (and treadmill time) was quickly over taken by deep clean the house time… and pack up a bunch of stuff time… and rearrange stuff time.

While I still got some activity from all of the cleaning, it just wasn’t the same.



After a couple of weeks of the deep cleaning routine, there wasn’t much left to clean around here other than just the usual straightening up stuff so I then had NO excuse not to try to work things out with the treadmill, right?

Wrong.

I had a perfectly LAME excuse…

I had started a fling with my old flame… ice cream.

It kind of seems like cheating to be eating ice cream when I am really into the whole working out thing, so I just skipped the working out thing.

Makes sense, right?

Well, that lead to another break up…

My size 10 jeans want to break up with me! I am desperately trying to change their mind, but they seem pretty set on the decision.

I can still wiggle into them and I can still button them up, but they are just not as comfy as they once were... especially in this heat and humidity.

I have a couple pair of back up size 12 jeans, but they just aren’t the same. =(

I LOVE the size 10 jeans… I just kind of like the size 12 jeans.

[Insert kicking my own a** here]

Time to take full responsibility for this mess I've created and do something about it!

I’m not totally convinced that the fling with ice cream is over because if I’m being totally honest here… there’s a ˝ gallon of ice cream in my freezer right now.

BUT there’s no reason that I can’t have a little ice cream AND workout, right?

Sure, it seems a bit counter-productive… but the alternative isn’t any better. In fact, if I’m going to eat ice cream I SHOULD be working out so that it’s not quite as bad as if I were eating junk and not exercising at all.



So this morning I reconciled with the treadmill. Things will probably be a bit rocky for a while, you know, but I’m working on it.

60 minutes… 3.66 miles… 727 calories burned

It was a horrible workout, but it’s a start.

My heart rate was all over the place. My max heart rate should be 187… but my heart rate was getting into the 190s fairly easily and topped out at 196. That was probably partially because I was having trouble with focusing on my breathing… and I was really hot. I really wanted to quit at 30 minutes, but I stuck with it.

I’m really disappointed with myself because I had just gotten to the point where I could run for 15-20 minutes without a walk break before the whole break-up thing, but today it felt like I was going to die from running just 5 minutes.

Oh well, I will get back there if I stick with it.

And I need to stick with it… my size 10 jeans depend on it!

Oh… At the end of my workout I glanced over at the fan and realized part of the reason I got so hot was because the fan was on the "swing" setting. It’s a remote controlled fan and I had been using the remote for my iPod dock to skip songs. Somehow that must have turned on the swing setting on for the fan. No wonder I felt like I was melting!

Note to self: Just use your ear buds next time… and stop breaking up with the treadmill!

    I think making up with the treadmill is a fabulous idea...you guys are meant for each other.

    Oooh, size 10 jeans....I haven't been able to fit into size 10 jeans since I was like 13. it is a quest I've been on for a long time :-)

    Winnie, sometimes life gets in the way, that is ok though. The most important thing is that you get back on with what is important to you, which it sounds like you are doing. It is ok to have setbacks and distractions as long as you are able to work past them. Congrats on building your new house together...what an exciting time!

    Girl, you always make me laugh. You are such a good writer. Ice cream is like a scandalous man. Creeps in a perfectly good relationship with you and size 10 makes you feel pretty for a min and then bam, leaves you cold and wanting more like you had with size 10. I know you have this and tell that treadmill your sorry. Never go to bed not talking ;)

    Glad to hear the break up wasn't the boyfriend lol. almost thought the stress from the house. Glad you are getting reacquainted with the treadmill. I hope to get back on mine tomorrow. 3.66 in 60 mins is not bad at all.

    Love it!!! So glad you two have made up. I broke up with my treadmill a few years back...just could not stand all that walking and never getting anywhere. Now I either walk outside or do an aerobics video or go to the gym. I also still have a current fling with ice cream as well, however, I try to stick to the kinds that are sugar free or the sherbets- that way I don't feel as bad when I have some. emoticon

    I am so proud of you for recognizing this early! woot*woot..now... go in the kitchen and toss out that ice cream and go get some single serve skinny cows or weight watchers. you know they rock and it's all about portion control. you will feel 100% better after you do!!!! I promise. :)
