For the last two weekends, I've had to work a conference for my job. The conferences were at fancy hotels that provided "breakfast", lunch and snacks all day. In the past, I made resolve after resolve to eat clean...fresh, whole foods and when faced with a spread before me of a huge variety of foods, I would cave. I would eat foods that I didn't want simply because they were free and everyone else was eating them!!! Breakfast was pastries and coffee. I love coffee but have been off of caffeine since February.
So how did I survive and NOT eat at these buffets?
* I brought my own food.
Lots of fruit in a small cooler left in my hotel room.
* During the breaks, I went up to my room and snacked and brought fruit down to the conference in my bag. I did not allow myself to get hungry!
* At lunch, I had a huge salad. (dinner plate full). Sometimes I even ate the food decorations
* I make salad dressing out of spagetti sauce (Italian buffet). salsa (Mexican buffet) or a small amount of vinegrette and lemon juice and/or mustard! I really like mustard and it's good on salad.
* Here's what really worked for me and you may find gross, but I told myself that the food at breakfast, snacks and most of lunch was really dog food!! The food that we feed our dogs is highly processed and nothing like what a dog living in the wild would eat. So I thought of all that food as dog food and it helped me to stay away from it.
So to recap, don't allow yourself to be hungry. Bring your own fruit and fresh food. Eat fresh salads with no-fat dressing and PRETEND the rest IS DOG FOOD!
