Boredom During Workouts

Thursday, August 09, 2012

I can feel it already, I'm starting to get bored during my work outs. Please know that I cannot do a lot of things right now. I'm still beginning.
I have switched it out a bit with how much time I spend on the treadmill and how much time I spend on the elliptical. Most of that has been necessary though because of shin splints (less time on treadmill walking to more time on elliptical low impact.)

I have the TV right in front of me with closed captioning on and an ipod singing in my ears, but the time can sometimes go soooo slow. I will say I notice a difference when I really focus on the work out - I feel stronger and times goes a little faster.

Any suggestions for focus would be lovely. I don't want to get super bored and start looking for reasons not to do it.

Onward we go...

Check out a few workout dvds or the videos on Spark. Changing it up a day or two a week will make all the difference in the world. Also, when you can, get outside for a walk. I find it easier to run outside than on a treadmill... more to look at!

Check out a few of the Spark videos---there is a chair exercise one that is pretty good that might give you an option. Also, when the weather gets better(not so darn hot), try taking your walk outside when you can---a change of scenery might help.

get an audio book and listen to them, just make sure that it is one that holds your attention and makes time pass quickly that you don't notice it.

Like maggie said maybe throw in some strength training, yoga or if you go to the gym find a class. If you workout at home there dones of DVD out there. Also if you need to stay on the machines make a game out of it. Push yourself for as hard as you can as long as you can... take a break and then try to go farther. Or something like that.

perhaps listening to a book on tape would help you pass the time?

Look up suggestions on the website. They have suggestions about how to fit in exercise while watching TV.

Why not add strength training to your workouts? Yoga could also do you good. There are so many options. Just do it!
