Riding

Wednesday, August 08, 2012

Today is Wednesday and I find it hard to believe that it's actually the first opportunity I've had on my vacation to sit down and write a blog entry.  Our vacations are usually jammed packed with activities, but this vacation is doubly so.

This year, we decided to add bicycle riding the list of daily family activities. Last year, we rented bikes twice over our week and a half trip and I thought it was good exercise. This year, we all came up with our own bikes on a bike rack that I just picked up for us.  While it is great exercise, it really has eaten in to the time I spend relaxing at the house we are renting.

Every morning we've spent at least an hour at the bike trail.  I am loving my new bike.  The only complaint I have is that neither my husband nor son really ride that fast. I keep wanting to get out and see how fast it can really go!

I ride by myself and I run by myself, but then I also ride and walk with Bug and Gramie. They are different activities, but both serve useful parts of the whole. I did the 5km in Barrhaeave with Gramie, she crossed the finish line second to last, I followed her across. We were back in time for me to really run the 10km with my oldest grandson. Gramie and I did the 5km side by side. Curt and I start together and then run our own race. Fitting in where we fit. We meet up afterwards, and this year had a family and friends BBQ to celebrate Gramie`s first 5km and a PR for Curtis and a combo 5km plus 10km for Popie.

For me it is knowing that each of these has different intensions, but that each is also valuable and part of the whole package

That's my problem with family rides. I have two girls, 6 and 4... and they CAN'T keep up. They have scooters, and don't know how to ride yet. I'm remedying that for the old one on her birthday, though!

Just burn off and leave them in your dust

I know what you mean! I've ridden with my husband a few times. Love that he wants to go, but I think I can walk faster than he can bike!
