I can safely say that I have injured my left leg. After the Virtual 5K last week, I had some pain on my lower left leg (calf/shin area). I iced it and played the "watch it" card. Within about 24 hours, a bruise appeared from the lower front of the shin wrapping around to the inside of my knee. It lines up perfectly with the pain I am having. I decided to take off a week and see what happens. After icing every night and being pretty much totally inactive (for me), the pain is still there and the leg is getting stiff.
I was talking to a friend last night whose sister had a similar injury presentation. It was some type of muscle strain. Basically as I understand it, muscle grew too fast for the bone to keep up. If this is what I have, there's not much I can do but rest it and wait for it to heal. I really don't want to go to the doctor unless I can't handle it or it doesn't start to heal. It's just way too much of a production to go to the doctor with the kids in tow and I compare the stress of it all to competing in the Olympics.
Mentally, I am devastated! As of last week, I had just ten weeks left until my next official 5K (Stinking Roses) and ten weeks left in my training plan. NOW, I am one week behind... and definitely more. I just feel like after all my training, I am going to be starting from the beginning again instead of moving forward. Anyhow, I have to keeping moving or I will lose my motivation. So I will be focusing on my core and upper body work until I feel confident that my leg is healed.
