Unbelievable...

Tuesday, August 07, 2012

Apparently, not even an am 8-time Olympic medalist competing in this year's Olympics is safe from those who feel free to make comments about someone else's weight. Australia's Leisel Jones was subjected to incredibly insensitive and completely inappropriate remarks from the critical press in her country, but when given the opportunity to respond, she handled it like a true champion.

Why any reporter anywhere ever feels it is alright to inject his/her personal opinion instead of just sticking to the facts is beyond me, but perhaps this incident might give at least a few of them pause to better consider their words. One can only hope...

I haven't been following too much and was surprised to see this. How sad that she can't revel in how good she is doing and instead has to put up with BS that shatters the self esteem.

This is such a great reminder that words can really do damage to others! I don't know why people feel so inclined to comment on other people's appearance! 150 pounds and 5'10" is a build that many women would love to have!

Most of the celebrities worshipped by the public are photo-shopped and two dimensional. Leisel Jones is a real person...and an amazing real person at that.

To me, she is a champion in every way!

So nasty, how some folks in the media like to shred people up into little bits. I'm glad people have been speaking up for Jones--she really IS a champion in more than just swimming!
