INJURY... bah!!!

So, about a week ago, I had a really great run... was feeling terrific about myself... right?

I rolled my ankle during that run, but didn't think anything of it because it didn't hurt... AT THE TIME. I had to deviate off the sidewalk because a dude and his 17 dogs were coming down the sidewalk, so I ran across the grassy portion of the common area to get out of his way. My left ankle rolled out a little - just a little bit! Really didn't feel like anything!

The next day, I could hardly walk down stairs. After doing a little online digging, it seems I strained/sprained my peroneal tendon (outer aspect of the foot, behind the ankle bone and next to the achilles tendon). Flexing the foot felt fine; pointing the foot was agonizing. And forget about doing anything other than gentle walking on it. It also felt bruised to the touch... massaging it was a tiny bit painful. Other ankle was fine, so... probably not the VFFs at the root of the cause.

So my exercise mojo is all screwed up. I've been doing upper body things while treating the ankle with RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation), and I'm taking anti-inflammatories, but I miss running, and I miss plyo, and I miss kenpo. It's only been a week since the injury and already it's feeling much better, and I know I'm doing the smart thing by resting it as much as possible, but I still feel all messed up. I want my old self back!!

If I have no pain on Thursday morning, I'm going to attempt some light exercise on it and really baby it, starting with my scheduled plyo on Thursday. Going to have to really modify it - like, SUPER modify it - but I need to keep up with my training. If the pain isn't gone on Thursday morning, it's time for a doctor - maybe one who specializes in sports medicine.

Ugh. If you have any to spare, any healing vibes/mojo/etc. you could fling my way would be lovely. :)

    Ouch, I am just recovering from a sore hamstring. Rest is the best medicine so a whole bunch of healing mojo is headed your way!

    My husband realized that more "ankle rolls" were contributed from his darn running shoes. They weren't wide enough at the heal to support the ankle from not rolling. A new investment in running shoes made all the difference in his injury free ankles!
It is frustrating to get an injury, I hurt my foot last week and felt the same way, so off to have to modify! But it is the best to recover first and not push it to potentially cause more issues. I think your plan is a good one. Just keep your head up that these RICE days will be over before you know it!
