The Unmentionables!

Tuesday, August 07, 2012

Yesterday my sewing friend and I met for our weekly sewing adventure. Here is where I talk about... the Unmentionables. Yes. You heard me right. We sewed.... Underwear. LOL. We found a tutorial on YouTube, and cut up pairs of our old undies, made patterns, cut up old t-shirts (mine said "Cowboys Wanted: Only Studs Need Apply". )

So anyway we cut them up and made our first hand-made pair of undies. It was fun. Until I looked at my undies and realized how much bigger they were than her undies (she is a size 6/8 on a bad day). She tried hers on over her pants (and they still made her figure look great). I cringed. She urged me to try mine on, and I suddenly became very self conscious. I didn't want to try them on, and they not fit. Because I am overweight. I didn't even want to show her my undies. I feared she would think less of me once she saw what a parachute they looked like.

She wanted to make a second pair. I wanted to hide in a hole.

I am turning this into motivation. I wanted to run this morning, but I am told you should only run every other day, and cross train on the "off" days. This is an off day. I ran yesterday. Who would have thought I would WANT to run?!?! But I can't wait to run tomorrow. Today will be Zumba after the girls therapy session. Maybe this time next year, I will make a pair of undies that I will be proud to try on over top of my clothes.... *sigh*

Monday - 5K training, sewing with Heather emoticon
Tuesday - Zumba
Wednesday - 5K training am - FLASH MOB

No! We do NOT want to see pictures. My already fragile mind couldn't handle it.

Homemade undergarments? Wow! You're so talented! What will you think of next?

I don't sew, but I'm fascinated by this idea of homemade underwear (maybe because I hate buying random sizes in the store hoping they fit, and half the time wasting the money, because the size charts are always wrong!)

I can so relate. I have really wide hips and even at my goal weigh, I know my unmentionables will be pretty darn circus tenty compared to the little petite things that some women can wear. But ya know what....I don't care because I'm a "big" girl and strong is the new pretty!

My keys to scale moving right now are super low carb and getting ANGRY! I have to remember that I can easily "out eat" any amount of exercise that I do.

Love the lyrics at the top of your page!

    How 'bout this:

(lyric from "Raised by Wolves" - falling in reverse

The "you" in the lyrics refers to the "old" me. I'm so DONE with her!!

i understand. i am a knitter and i recently finished a sweater. i was horrified at the size i had to make for it to fit me.
but like you, it's turned into a motivator. i already have a pattern picked out for my own unmentionables to make when i reach my first goal.

I am so glad you could turn this into a motivation. It is so easy (for me anyway) to get in these situations and emotional eat. So KUDOS to you! and I am sure your undies did not look as big as you thought they did. We are always too hard on ourselves. great story. thanks for sharing.
