Giddy Up!!

Monday, August 06, 2012

The main reason I post blogs is to get things off my chest. I find that if I throw my 'troubles' out into the universe, the weight falls off my shoulders and I can regroup easier than if I stifle them.

Once again, this has proven true. I woke up this morning. I got out of bed. I threw on my workout gear. I ran the 5k around my neighborhood that I had only been doing half-assed lately. I got back home. I did my post-running stretches. I didn't feel DONE. I went into the spare bedroom and hopped on the elliptical machine for 30 minutes. After that, I got on the stationary bike for a 5 minute cool down. I showered, then grabbed a bowl of cereal.

I decided to get back to the fundamentals. I took my measuring cup with me. I poured my 3/4 cup of Special K. I added milk. I ate. I felt satisfied. It's funny how you think you're getting screwed if the bowl isn't full. What a waste of space! But going back to that 3/4 cup felt good. It felt right.

I donated a triple shot of platelets this morning. There is nothing quite like a selfless act to make you realize how much more others are in need than you. My stuff seems petty and trivial.

I said it in one of my first blogs, when I talked about blood donation, but I'll bring it up again here. I have special blood. You see, I never gained a certain component that most people get as they grow up. Because I test negative for this component, my blood is, for lack of a better term, 'pure'. So, although my platelets go to leukemia and other cancer patients regardless, babies have priority to my blood. How incredible is that? I am helping the most innocent of the helpless. It's a cool thing. So I will admit I enjoyed some mini Chips Ahoys in the refreshment area (things always taste better when they're free! LoL). I earned it. But I did stick with my water instead of juice or soda.

I just got home. I had my healthy lunch. The only thing I'm craving right now is ice water. Well, and a nap. I did just get drained, literally, and am drained, figuratively.

So my Lovelies, thank you for being my sounding board. For being the universe I throw my thoughts into. Smooches to all!

Here is me this morning, pre-draining, LoL

My mother required 5 pints of blood when she had an aneurysm at the age of 47. I wanted to repay the 5 pints and more. I donated once in university and then was put on a cocktail of meds for my bipolar. I checked and I was no longer able to donate because of the meds. Good for you to help keep the supply going.

What an awesome day! You reminded me, it's past time for me to give blood again. I'll get on that now!

    Sounds like a great day!

Thanks for donating blood. I'm the opposite, I'm lacking something that makes me unable to ever give blood again. (it would hurt me, recipient would be fine)

I love that you are keeping it real. Mondays have become my favorite day of the week - I find myself back on track after a binge or two on the weekend. Solid workouts. How cool is that that you have "special" blood. I find it quite fascinating, actually.
You look pretty darn good there, girl!

This pic of you is sooooooo pretty :) you look awesomely happy! And thank you for your donation. I can't donate blood because I have anemia, but I'll try again soon (haven't tried in years but ever since I changed what I eat drastically I think I will be able to donate!).

It must be a component of less-awesome you're missing, because obviously it hasn't hindered you in any way! I used to donate blood all the time. Then I had to take time off when I got a tattoo. After I went back to donating, I had a few bad experiences with my blood pressure tanking, so I regret to say I haven't in probably 2 years. And now my Little Bean needs it!

Getting back to the essentials is key sometimes! I normally don't plan my menu on my days off, but sometimes I need to if I feel myself drifting off path.
