DH laughed at my improvisation

Sunday, August 05, 2012

Sometimes, we have to improvise. Make do with what we have, but be creative so that we can achieve the results we want. Anyone who is a public school teacher has learned to improvise!!!

I didn't want to spend money on a gym. (Not on my teacher salary.) So I scoped out a variety of walking routes, all of which included bathrooms and water or drinks. Alternate routes focused on hills rather than distance. I was set for cardio. Improvisation.

Again, no gym - so I put together a variety of routines for myself using body weight - you know, wall pushups, chair dips, squats, lunges, leg lifts, all the crunches known to humanity - improvisation.

Tonight's example:
We had our house sale yesterday - all of our dishes are sold. The cooking utensils were bought. Both colanders - gone. I saved one skillet and one soup pot (both are pre-bought) - so at least I can cook for the next few nights, before friends come to claim their purchases.

So I made pasta and re-heated the sauce, adding the rest of the frozen peppers. How to mix the pasta in the huge soup pot???? Hmmmmm - how about a wire whisk!!!!!! Worked perfectly!!!! No colander? Hmmmm - how about the grilling veggie pan that has holes all over it - balanced on a mug in the sink, it made a perfect pasta strainer! The mug then became my serving spoon! I ate out of a small mixing bowl, DH had the next size up. DH came in as I was serving up our dinner, and he just started laughing at my creative set up.

I am the queen of improvisation!!

I felt like we were eating out so much when we were in the middle of moving. Nice to be cooking regularly again.

Nope - I can make almost anything happen!

And I just retired from 25 years at the same middle school - gotta love that age group! I taught art - you can imagine how we "make do."

And thank you for teaching the special ed kids - they need extra love!
