Might have found our new temporary home!

Sunday, August 05, 2012

It's looking like we may have found our new temporary home.

We went to look at an apartment today in a huge apartment complex that's 5-10 minutes away from the new house. We'd actually pass the road to the new house on our way home from work if we take the apartment.

It's a very small one bedroom apartment, which will be fine as a temporary home. I'm not totally convinced about whether or not we'll be able to fit all of our belongings into the house. It has a living room that will probably fit our living room furniture, a small dining room that I hope will be big enough to store most of our boxes, and a bedroom that should fit our bedroom furniture. We are leaving several things at this house so I'm hoping we can make it work. I definitely won't be able to USE the treadmill at the apartment, but I'm hoping we can fit it in somewhere. Most of our outdoor stuff and our bikes will probably have to be stored at someone else's house. We could also rent a garage for an additional $100 a month if need be, but we are trying to avoid that if at all possible.

The apartment complex has an outdoor pool and a fitness room. The fitness room is small... a few weight machines, some free weights, two treadmills, a bike and an elliptical... but it would be so much better than not being able to exercise at all for a few months. And it was borderline chilly in there so that would be perfect for me! And if we get tired of the little fitness room the apartment complex is built on a hill and there are several paths around the community where we could do some serious walking.

We put a hold on an apartment pending getting the official word about the house being sold. There's still one small check to be done on the prospective buyer before things are official.

It's looking like packing, moving boxes, and unpacking may be my fitness minutes for a while!

I saw that you had sold a house, but didn't realize you would need temporary housing before you could move into your next place. My boss went through something similar last year.

Renting a storage place isn't the worst thing ever. My husband and I did it for a while and it was actually kind of nice not having all of our STUFF in our apartment. There are things that I own that I don't need to look at every day, and it was nice having them out of the way.

I missed the fact you had a buyer for your boyfriend's house. Must be the couple that was interested after the open house? Anyway, I'm glad to hear that things seem to be falling into place. And yes, moving is definitely a lot of work and should count as your fitness minutes/activity! :-)

    Oh, Moving....WHAT FUN!!!! (not)

Good luck, my dear, I know exactly what you're in for...and at least you know that when it's all over, you'll be happy in your new digs. Not having enough room for everything means just start dumping now...because the rent for a garage or storage place is money not spent on other stuff. It's odd how we look at things that we have and value them so much, but no one else seems to agree.

Keep on keeping on and when you finally get in your new home I know you'll love it...you just have to keep your mind on that. emoticon
