Bible for my Boys...

Sunday, August 05, 2012

While reading my Bible this morning, I had a neat idea of something I want to do for my boys. When I read, I usually highlight parts that I like or things that I want to be able to find easily when I look back through a book. While reading my Bible, I highlight but I also make little notes as I sense God talking to me. Sometimes it is very similar to what the passage says, other times it may be something totally unrelated but that God put on my heart while reading...

Anyways... Back to what I was saying emoticon. While reading today and making little notes and highlights, I thought, "Wouldn't it be cool if I read through a Bible and did this for each of my boys?" As I read, I could highlight parts that I feel have meaning to them, wishes for them, write in the margins things that God is speaking to my heart about them, etc. I am thinking it might be a good gift for the boys when they turn 13? Something that when they are older they can look back on... Kind of like an heirloom, but also a great source of guidance through their teenage years and for the rest of their lives. Adam turns 12 next month, so I have a whole year to do his. I would have 2.5 years until I would present Josh with his...

I wanted to blog about this in case if anyone else might want to do this for their own children. Of course it wouldn't have to be a gift for a 13-year-old, that is just the age that I have picked. I will be heading to the Christian Bookstore in a week while the boys are at kids camp to start this. I am going to keep it "quiet" from them. As far as they know, mom just got a new Bible and is taking notes/highlighting as usual. (Although once I give Adam his, Josh will probably know that the next one is for him).
