No, I did not run a race yesterday, but I won all the same - a small victory, but a victory none the less...
At 6:30, I woke... Hey, it's Saturday, why was I waking up at 6:30? I did not have a race to do... no, but I did have a headache... yes, it was raining... :( I took 2 Tylenol and crawled back into bed and tried to wish away the headache. My husband got up at 7 and went out to his Men's Breakfast (typical for a Saturday). The Tylenol kicked in somewhat and I got up - sinus pressure lessens when I'm up and moving around.
As I got dressed, I realized I was putting on my workout gear -go figure. I had a 7-mile workout scheduled for today and a wedding, so it had to be this morning. It was still drizzly as I headed for my car. The Arboretum was relatively deserted, so parking was easy. I decided to do a Couch 2 5K workout to start and go from there. The temps were high 70s to start, but the humidity was - okay, it was 100%!
I've been working slowly up to running for longer stretches as my knees have gotten stronger. I was going to do Week 4. I did my first 5 minute stretch of jogging without stopping! No big deal for some of you, but it was for me! The rest of the C25K workout went well and then I walked out the rest of my mileage - didn't want to over do...
At mile 5, I was ready to quit - too muggy. As I passed the parking lot, I stopped quickly at my car to grab some water... kind of like a water stop in a race! I could do another lap (mile) surely... At mile 6, I was close to a 10K distance - surely that was enough. NO, I could go at least another half lap... At the end of the last mile, I was trudging, but I finished. I conquered it - not the other way around!
Drank lots of water on my way home, enjoyed a nice shower and a trip to the lumber yard with my husband - yeah, after 25 years, it's a date! Then grocery shopping after lunch with my son in tow for company.
I was feeling the workout after the additional walking around the store and unbagging and storing all the groceries! A nap would have been nice, but there was a wedding to attend.. and I had forgotten to pick up a gift! Run out to the store, purchased something nice (thank you for Bed Bath and Beyond Gift Registry!), stop at Hallmark for a card and back to the house to make sure everyone was ready to go.
The wedding was outdoors, with thunderstorms looming to the west... no rain! (Yay, God!) It was a lovely ceremony and an excellent reception - the h'orderves served as dinner - over my budget, but not by a lot... I visited with some old friends who were in for the wedding and as they are both runners, guess where the topic of conversation went... You guessed it! Joe was even nice enough to as if I had ever considered doing a triathlon! I'm doing well to walk (and run a little) 5 and 10K events! What a hoot!
All, in all, a good day. Don't want to do it again tomorrow, but a good, very full day! Oh, and did I mention I finally reached 180! - 179.5 to be exact... yes, a good day!
