Running / Walking in God's Country

Saturday, August 04, 2012

Although I am not sure about running, I have always been a walker. I love living here. It is called Godís Country and I so agree! I grew up in Northern Illinois and moved here about 10 years ago. My daughter and I have traveled all over the country. Whenever we come home I am always amazed at how beautiful it is. I love the rolling hills and all the trees. I appreciate the work that the farmers do Ė both land and cows. They do a ton of work, more than I could handle.

Here is what I see when I am out in the country for one of my runs or walks.

Here is one view.

Here is a view looking back towards town:

Here is a bald eagle Ė Iíll bet most of you donít get to see that when working out. It is hard to see in the picture, but it the black spot on the right branch.

When I started to try running, I wore my headphones, but I don't do that anymore. I would rather hear the birds and the wind in the crops. Even the sounds are beautiful. By not wearing headphones, I can also let my mind wander easier and have had some great thoughts while out.

I saw this on facebook the other day, do not know who the author is (I am a Bears fan, not a Packer fan, but have never had an interest in the Vikings):

God Made Wisconsin

God was missing for six days. Eventually, Michael, the archangel, found him, resting on the seventh day.
He inquired, "Where have you been?"
God smiled deeply and proudly pointed downwards through the clouds, "Look, Michael. Look what I've made."
Archangel Michael looked puzzled, and said, "What is it?"
"It's a planet," replied God, and I've put life on it. I'm going to call it Earth and it's going to be a place to test Balance."
"Balance?" inquired Michael, "I'm still confused."
God explained, pointing to different parts of Earth. "For example, northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth, while southern Europe is going to be poor. Over here I've placed a continent of white people, and over there is a continent of black people. Balance in all things."
God continued pointing to different countries. "This one will be extremely hot, while this one will be very cold and covered in ice."
The Archangel, impressed by God's work, then pointed to a land area and said, "What's that one?"
"That's Wisconsin, the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful rivers and streams, lakes, forests, and hills. The people from Wisconsin are going to be handsome, modest, intelligent, and humorous, and they are going to travel the world. They will be extremely sociable, hardworking, high achieving, carriers of peace, and producers of good things. Champions shall come from here!"
Michael gasped in wonder and admiration, but then asked, "But what about balance, God? You said there would be balance."
God smiled, "I will create Minnesota, wait till you see the clowns I put there. They will field a football team to provide entertainment, they will wear purple and play in a domed stadium."
Michael inquisitively asked, "Why a domed stadium?"God chuckled and said, "You see Michael,...even I don't want to watch them play football."

Great pictures! Even though I run/walk in town, with three lakes and the Arboretum I often get to see great blue heron, kingfishers, hawks, wild turkeys. No eagles though!

I agree 100%, we have a great and beautiful state. Your neck of the woods is particularly awesome.

Love the poem (being a die hard Packer fan).
