Bring in the clouds

Saturday, August 04, 2012

We woke up to a different kind of day today. We left the house, and there were thunderheads all over. This is looking towards the San Bernardino Mtns.

I was walking back to the car, and noticed the clouds hanging over the hills by my housee.

We exercised Huck and Meg's. Alice and Sarge didn't get to go today. Oh, they looked so sad. I told them they had to stay. Sarge just looked at me, like "you don't mean it".

We started to hear thunder. I looked up and there was the oddest line in the clouds. I was in the backyard looking north.

I walked to the side of the house, and looked north/west and there was another strange line. (hope it shows)

I walked to the backyard again, and looked east.

We left the house and drove up the street. The Sunflowers are still looking good in the open field. I loved the contrast between the gray sky, and the yellow flowers.

DH took me to Lowe's, and I bought Petunias, and another Portulaca. Not that I really needed another one of those, but the red flower in it is a deeper red then my other plants. It was only $1.49. The Petunias were $2.49. Not a bad deal for beauty.

While we were in the front yard, I snuck up on Alice. I took 3 pictures of her hehe.

We went to check on our garden. DH picked 3 Tomatoes.

Not many of my Sunflower pictures turned out nice today, but these two did.

That flower just opened up today.

Within 15 mins. the sky looked like this again.

About 10pm we walked out in the backyard, and we could see lightening in the distance. I sure wish we would get rain. We are bone dry here.

Have a good Sat.

I don't know what is worst, dry thunderstorms or the torrential rain that comes with them. I hope you get some rain soon, but not too hard, because that is usually devastating for the plants in the garden.
The cloud formations are emoticon I do so love to see your photos!
The studies of Alice are so lovely!I had not really had a chance to take a good look at her before! What beautiful dogs you have! emoticon
I love to see all your animals! How are the birds doing?
I think all your sunflower pics are good! I did not grow any this year as I was too caught up with the vegetable seeds Sue gave me. How I miss my sunflowers! I love to see yours!
I like Portulaca, I will have to try growing some next year! Have not grown any for a long time. But I have been concentrating on native wild flowers, for our bees.

Lovely skies, we were lucky and had a heavy shower in the afternoon, it only lasted about ten minutes but it thundered and lightened too before it passed over...it's not so humid now.

Your sky looks like western Washington. When we see black clouds here, we have big storms. We had large hail last week and crop damage and ruined cars. We were on the edge of the storm. We had tennis ball sized hail (very slushy). We didn't have any damage.

We get clouds too! We need the rain just as bad! The storms move towards the lake and then go either north or south of Toledo and completely misses us. Rain is forcasted for tomorrow. We'll see what happens!

Those clouds are interesting with those funny lines. You sure have the eye for those things. Love the pups, too bad Sarge and Alice couldn't go today, I'm sure they will like it when they go the next time. Alice must be mellowing out for all those pictures. She is such a sweetie.

Beautiful pictures! I love the dogs, they are my kind of dog! I used to have a Border Collie and I loved him so much!

It is so frustrating when the rain clouds don't produce rain. Can't remember the last time it rained here, though it has been much wetter this year than last. I hear there is a tropical depression in the Gulf, so maybe when it hits Texas it will bring us some rain!

    Have a great weekend! emoticon

It's amazing that it can get dark and lots of thunder and then nothing.

we need rain everywhere...so dry..even the Mississippi River is lower and dryer than it ever has been..they are dredging the rivers of our state that flow into the Mississippi just so they can continue to have barge traffic flow..Some places on the Mississippi they have slowed to one barge at a time..
Love your sunflowers..I too love Portulaca and they seem to be the only thing that has thrived in this heat and drought but of course we are watering them..Everything else is pretty dead or dying. I'm ready for some cooler weather.

Isn't it amazing how threatening the sky can look and get no rain? We are in a drought here in Illinois, so I know what you are saying about bone dry. Love your dogs' photos. Have a great week-end. emoticon
